Lafayette POV
So. New York, huh?
Wow. It's... well.
The airport looks like - how you say? - complete and utter trash.
But I digress.
I make my way down to the terminal to get my bags.
After a few minutes, I realize that my bags are not there.
I start to panic, trying not to draw attention to myself as I timidly walk up to the airport worker by the luggage pickup. I have to look up at him because of my small figure.
"Excusez-moi?"
"Huh," I hear the man grunt.
"Désolé, excuse me? Um. I am having trouble locating my baggage. It doesn't seem to be in the pick up conveyor belt..."
The man stands straighter. "I'm sorry about that, miss. I'll contact my associates and see what I can do."
"I'm a he."
"Sorry, what?"
"I am a man."
"Oh, I am so sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"Don't worry about it."
A few moments later...
"Okay, we may have located your bags. Is your name... uh... Last name Lafayette?" He asks.
"Oui! Merci, merci! Tu es un sauveur!!"
"Don't know much French, but I got 'yes,'" He chuckles, "I'll escort you to your baggage."
"Merci, again. You have no idea how grateful I am. I've heard about how bad New York airport workers were, but such a nice gesture coming from you really means a lot."
"I get that a lot," he says - how you say - nonchalantly, "I really don't understand the big deal."
"It is still very kind of you."
"Thank you."
"I never caught your name?" I say, coming out as a question.
"I never threw it," he answers.
I laugh. I never knew someone working in an airport could be so funny.
"But seriously, the name's Clovis. Clovis Lavoie."
"Oh, so you're French?"
"No, actually. My parents were, though. I've always wanted to go."
"Shouldn't be too hard. You work in an airport." I say.
"Doesn't quite work like that." he says, laughing a bit. "Hey, I know we just met, but can I have your number? So we can keep in touch?" he asks hopefully.
"Oh yes, of course," I say, quickly writing my information on a piece of paper and handing it to him. "Here you go."
"And here you go," he says, handing me my bags.
"Merci."
"De rien."
********************
I stalk my way up the stairs into the front desk of Kings College. I'm supposed to get my room stuff here?
"Excuse me, are you Lafayette?" I hear a voice call.
"Oui, I mean, yes. That is me."
"Excellent! You are in room 1757. Enjoy your stay!"
"Merci."
