Liam's POV

Surprisingly, we end up doing what was told of us. Throughout the days before the set proposal date, the boys and I had to make numerous phone calls. Zayn was busy inviting his and Perrie's family members, Louis, along with Eleanor, helped contact the people who would set up the tent in the backyard. Niall was in charge of food, though Zayn instructed him not to get too much, since it wouldn't be that big of an event. Harry and I were in charge of decorations. I flip through the phonebook, looking through numbers for various party shops.

"Here's a good one," Harry says, pointing at an advertisment.

I look at the ad, which had a picture of a tent with fairy lights wrapped around the posts and a couple flowers in the middle. I nod, grinning at the younger lad.

"Looks good, we'll have to tell Zayn before we decide on it."

Harry makes a dash towards Zayn, who, as always, has a phone pressed to his ear. we wait patiently as we listen to him speak.

"No, Jade, don't tell- yeah, just make sure that you and the girls are here by Saturday evening. Don't tell the other girls, please. Yeah. Thank you." He mumbles, running his fingers through his hair before hanging up.

"Jade? You told her?" I ask, looking over at Zayn. His face was filled with worry as he nods.

"I needed at least one of them to make sure she wouldn't extend her stay."

"We found this ad that we thought you'd like," Harry says, showing the older lad the picture that we had both seen.

Zayn nods, his lips curving into a small smile. "That looks perfect, Just call them up and see what they can do about the tent, yeah?"

Saturday

I watch as Zayn rushes around the tent, entertaining the few guests that he had invited. I look around, content at the work that the boys and I had done in the span of a few days. I make my way over to Zayn, who is on the phone yet again.

"Five minutes? Okay, yeah. We're all here. All ready." I hear him say, a soft sigh emitting from his lips when he hangs up.

"You okay, man?" I ask, my brows furrowing in concern as I look at him, patting his back gently.

He nods, a smile spreading across his lips. "I'm alright, jus' nervous."

"You can do this, Zayn." I say, patting his back once more as Louis walks up to us, the velvet box in his hands.

"Kept it safe for you, mate. Now you'll have to do the same for me in the future." He says, dropping the box into Zayn's hands before giving him a cheeky wink, walking away.

"I have to go out to the front. Perr'll be here any minute." He says, power walking out of the tent and into the house.

As soon as Zayn exits, Niall holds up a megaphone, speaking into it. "If I can hav' yer attention, please. Zayn's just gone out to get Perrie and the girls, I'm gonna need you lot to get into your places so that we can surprise the happy couple when they come in," He says, and everyone abides.

I get into my place, which is by the opening of the tent. The music dies down, and there is complete silence until voices can be heard from ouside.

"Zayn, why does Pez have to close her eyes but we don't?"

"Jesy, calm down, 'm not being kidnapped."

"You never know- Why is there a tent in your backyard?!"

"Auntie Pez, don't step on that rock!"

"Zayn... What's going on?"

"Lee, Jes, hush it, will ya?"

I chuckle to myself, peeking outside to see Zayn guiding Perrie toward the tent. I open the entrance a bit, motioning for the three other girls to come over  while keeping a finger to my lips. They rush inside, Leigh-Anne and Jesy giving me questioning looks.

"Just stay here until Zayn reveals his surprise," I whisper, ushering them to my side. I turn back to watch the scene outside unfold, but when I look outside, Zayn is nowhere to be found, and so is Perrie.

I turn back to the girls. "Where's Zayn?"

They both give me confused looks, and Jade gives me a small shrug.

"Jayla was with Pez and Zayn," She says.

Zayn's POV

As soon as Liam guides the other girls into the tent, I feel my heart start to race as I look at my girlfriend, who is blindfolded as she holds Jayla's hand in one of hers and mine in the other.

"Zee?"

"Yes?"

"Where did the other girls go?"

I purse my lips, trying to think of something to say when Jayla beats me to it. "They went in the big tent, Auntie Pez! Are we gonna go in there too? I think I saw Uncle Liam in there!"

Perrie stops walking and turns towards my direction. "Zayn, what is this?"

I sigh softly, shaking my head. I couldn't do this, not in front of people. I turn around, starting back towards the flat.

"Come on, Jay. Uncle Zayn forgot something in the flat."

***

Once the three of us were inside the flat, I take the blindfold off of Perrie's eyes. She gives me a questioning look, and I smile assuredly at her.

"Don't worry," I say, guiding both her and the little girl into the spacious living room.

She looks at me, still not fully convinced. Jayla takes a seat on the couch, watching us with curious eyes.

I take both of her hands, a nervous chuckle slipping from my lips as I try to find the words to say.

"I originally planned to do this outside, in front of everyone waiting in the tent for us.." I start, shaking my head as I laugh softly. "Perr, it's been one hell of a year. We've been through so much together. I couldn't ask for anyone else to be with through everything. I love you so much, and I'd love to make you mine for the rest of my life." I shakily get down on one knee, letting go of her hands to take the box out of my pocket, nervously chuckling as my trembling hands open it, looking up at the love of my life.

"Can I officially call you my missus, Perrie Edwards?"

I watch her expression turn from one of confusion to shock and then to pure joy, a wide grin on her lips as she nods, her eyes teary as she whispers a soft "Yes, Zayn." I get up and quickly take the ring out of the box, slipping it onto her finger. I wrap my arms around her tightly, my eyes allowing a few tears to slip.

From the couch, I hear Jayla giggle, clapping her hands. "Good job, Uncle Zayn!"

So much for a planned proposal.
