it is officially the month of elul in the jewish calendar! elul is from august–september on the gregorian calendar btw, and rosh chodesh is what we call the first of every month!
so basically elul is the month of special rituals (such as blowing the shofar every morning except on shabbat aka friday evening–saturday night for us), asking for forgiveness, soul-searching, preparing ourselves for rosh hoshanah and yom kippur, and honoring our loved ones who have passed.
iʼm really excited for this elul because iʼm starting it with my grandparents, who will actually be with us for quite a bit of elul!! they follow more traditional customs than we do, so itʼll be really exciting to learn new customs from them.
