The next morning, the group got up just as the sun rose it's rosy gold rays onto the deadly lake beside them.
"(Y/N)! C'mon, we're going to be caught by the goddamn CCG morning patrol at this rate! Get your lousy ass up!" Touka bragged over her, slapping her cheek until it turned to the same rose color as the sky.
Oh Touka, if only you knew just how much sleep I'm not getting
"Fffffff-srew off Tou" (Y/N) almost screamed into her pillow as Touka started to drag her out of the tent and onto the mossy, moist, cold dirt outside.
". . .Well, good morning to you too" Nishiki said with a questioning face, as (Y/N) just sighed and took the milk coffee he'd made for her "Yeah- thanks Nishi"
"Nishi?"
"Srew off, it's six in the morning and I'm not about to pronounce all of your long names now"
"Did you even get any sleep last night (Y/N)? you have crazy rings under your eyes" Irimi said in concern.
Damn
(Y/N) usually painted on a layer of concealer to keep away such questions, but it must've smeared after all the temple-massaging and face palming she did last night while thinking of the safest route to success.
"No not really- got the job idea stuck in my head" (Y/N) huffed into the steaming cup
Yomo continued to look at her with a certain interest "Are you sure the job is the only thing?"
(Y/N) furrowed her brows at him "Yeah" she said plainly.
"Well, better get back to the car soon- patrol is at six thirty" Nishiki stretched himself out. And so, as the clock started to tick, and the others raveled the tents, (Y/N)- as Touka liked to put it, blanked out. But this time was different. This time, her heart ached alongside her blurred out nothing-matters mentality.
She was going to be with him. The man she'd loved all those years back. The man she was sent to kill for his betrayals and dismisses. Fate was cruel, but god makes no mistake. Whatever was to happen over the span of the next year or so, would be for the best; whether that be Ayato's death, or a third, hidden path. . .
"(Y/N)"
She frightened out of her daze as Yomo held her shoulder "I think you and I should talk"
"Hurry up! It's already six twenty five! We're going to have to run the entire way already- so get a move on! I'm not in the mood for white suited asses- though" Touka said, glaring at Kaneki "A fresh corpse wouldn't hurt"
(Y/N) dusted herself off "Coming!" she glanced at Yomo "sure" she whispered to him, before running off to change her clothes.
Luckily for them, leaping from tree to tree was far easier as a ghoul than a human- though Kaneki did require some assistance.
"Shit! Cover!" Touka whiper-shouted, bring the entire group to a breath hitching halt. (Y/N) didn't move a muscle, her eyes rolling down to scan every inch of forest beneath her, while her ears did the same with sounds behind her. But it didn't take long for them all to realize why Touka had called out so hastily.
Below them, the morning Patrol;
Kotaru Amon
Akira Mado
Kishou Arima
This wasn't just a morning check-er-up, but a full blown mission. (Y/N) recalled those two Doves she'd encountered on her was to the eleventh ward. They were after her former self- the frowning ghoul. Now, it looked like the task was passed on from amatures to professional fighters that could easily snap all of their necks.
