The dawn cracked upon (Y/N)'s skin, and once more, her eyes tired by sleepless nights of doubts and worries had made them sting like alcohol had been thrown upon them.
When her alarm went off, she did not move. At all. She remained laying down, starring at the ceiling fan spinning slower than her mind ever could, while the chirp of the alarm clock rang her ears.
She had woken up badly before, but this was beyond what she could imagine her body capable of. After an entire month of noise, the buzz of the alarm was like a mother's song, while she caressed her face. And for a moment, just a small one, she believed it actually was.
'Hold thy fist so bravely,
Never hold back.
Make them halt or make them see,
The world is not at lack.'
She could picture it- no, she saw it with her own eyes. The bed sliding down as the figure sat, the brown in her hair shining thanks to the brink of sunlight piercing the curtains, the sweet in her loving tone that swelled the golden room. Her hand, that glided along (Y/N)'s eye, down her cheek, along her nape.
Lie
(Y/N) knew, but couldn't pull herself from the dream, the hallucination. Her heart started to pick haste, but her eyes fluttered at the sight of the one that loved her. Whispers left her dry lips, whispers that not even she herself could understand, anything, just to speak to her mother.
Couldn't she stay?
Was she dying? Was every second she spent living that dream, that hallucination, was it pulling her away from the truth? From Life?
But one couldn't die so easily- right? Especially not her. She'd eaten last night, and a lot thanks to Touka and Yomo's forcage, and she'd rested well- well. . .as good as well could go. . .
But was it already too late? Was her body incapable of receiving that treatment? Was it. . .over?
"-MAKE HER TURN IT OFF ALREADY!"
(Y/N)'s mind fuzzed, as the silhouette faded into the reflection of the curtains. Kaneki stood at the door, a single tear digging into his watery eye, before dropping to the floor in an instant. His face twitched, her nose reddening. ". . .Ken" her voice cracked, as she noticed the burn in her upper throat.
Kaneki turned heel, parting from the room as heavy hiccups hid her sniffles. (Y/N) shot up, the disorientation in her mind thrusting her into a world of uncertainty. She reached out her hand- up-down-sideways, she didn't know. But before long, he alarm went silent, and she stood to walk from the room herself.
Compose yourself
Get it together
"Good morning" She grunted, walking into the café's area. Kaneki stood in the arms of Irimi, daring not to look at her friend. The others present gave her a poisoned stare.
". . .Is. . .everything alright?" she laughed politely. Yomo's eyes softened a wince, still harsh "Are you certain you don't need to go to a Therapist- the hospital?" (Y/N) pulled a confused face, easy for her to muster with the ache paining her brain "No I'm fine- just bloody tired. What's up with Kaneki?"
The group looked to the noirette. kaneki crept from Irimi's arms. "O-oh, uhm... Nothing then, I guess" (Y/N) gave him a wondrous look, before shrugging and slopping down into her chair. Nishiki brought out the coffee and breakfeat- meatballs,- leftovers from the night before. Touka sat next to (Y/N), sighing quietly "You know they're planning to force you into hospital? They want to knock you out and call an ambulance" she whispered
"Sadly for them, who don't quite know me that well, they haven't the slightest knowledge that I've never passed out in all my years on this plane of the living. There isn't a chance that they'd succeed"
"I know" Touka glanced at the others, chatting, preparing food or setting the table "-But they don't. And as much as I agree that you'll die soon if your physical needs aren't met, i'd rather- considering that it's perhaps already too late, that you die doing what you believe is best for you, instead of chained down by a salad of wires, tubes and needles"
"Rather die free than being carried to the grave- I thought I've told you many times not to idolize me. You'll meet an early death-"
"-but a better one" (Y/N) sighed as Touka's brow furrowed "Who's she?" (Y/N)'s eyes trailed Touka's sight. At the door, a messy green haired lady with funky glasses and a hippie sweatshirt stood smilling outside the café. It didn't take two seconds for (Y/N) to recognize who she was, but the rest of Anteiku,-the noirette especially, seemed not to.
"It can't be!Takatsuki Sen!!"
