The Orphan

The sunlight peers into my room, I didn't want to get out of bed, but before thinking of even getting up, my alarm goes off. "bzzzT"  I look at the alarm, 7:30. "Crap!" I say under my breath. I quickly climbed out of my bed, untangling myself from the sheets, and quickly scattered to get some clothes to put on. I feel good about wearing my favorite sweater which is awesomely cozy for this fall weather. I quickly look in my bathroom mirror to check to see if my hair look alright. I gave it a few brushes, brushed my teeth and just made myself look decent. I gave myself a smile and a thumbs up to my mirror self.

I go to grab a piece of bread and stuck it in the toaster. I get a text from someone on my phone as I hear the familiar beep from it. I look at my phone while I get it off it's charger. It's a text from Charlie.

 It's a text from Charlie

My toast was done, so I grabbed some butter and spread it onto the toast, and put it in my mouth as I got my coat on, and tied my shoes. I quickly wrote Charlie back.

I realized I hit the wrong keys but being in a hurry, I didn't care. I quickly left the house and started walking as fast as I could or I'd face the wrath of Mr. Phillips. It was nice to hear the fall leaves crunch underneath my feet, and admire the nature a bit. Avonlea was at it's best, as always. I start to whistle. I kept looking at the time, hoping to not be late to class. Because of myself being so wary of being late, I didn't realize there was a person in front of me. And we collided into each other. Her books fell out of her bag. "Oof." I got up, wiped the dust off my clothes, and lend a hand out to the girl whom I bumped into. "Ugh, really, on my first day here, and my clothes have dust on them." She looked up to see me holding my hand out. "Um," She gathered her books and put them back into her bag. I looked at her with a smile, "Sorry but I'm in a bit of a hurry..," She stood up, wiped the dust and dirt of her pants and jacket. She still didn't say anything. I put my hand back at my side. I looked at her for a bit, "..Do you by any chance go to...Avonlea High?" Still not saying anything she brushed one of her braid to the back of her shoulder and started to walk. "Wait, if you do, do you wanna walk together?!" I said, slightly raising my voice as she started to walk away from me. I tried to quickly match her speed, but then we got to the school before I could even look at my phone again. Everyone else started to go inside. I tried to stop her to get her name but she completely avoided me. I opened the school door, and went inside, still following her from behind. "HEY GIL!" I hear someone shout at me. I turn to see who it was. "GIL WHY ARE YOU FOLLOWING THAT RED HEADED PEPPER?" It was Billy, no one's favorite student or person in school. He laughed with his friends pointing at the girl who I was intent on finding out her name. She heard him make the comment about her hair and tried to avoid looking to see who said it. I quickly went to my locker to put my coat away, and grabbed the books I needed for class. The bell rang. It was time to get to class. I went to the class room and looked inside, and saw Charlie sitting at a desk with one open for me behind him. As I stepped into the room, Mr. Phillips made a slight comment to me, "Well, lucky you making it to class as the bell rang. Get to your seat Blythe." I looked at him slightly and tilted my head down, making my way to my seat. I sat down and saw the girl walk in. The light hit her hair at a perfect angle, making the redness shine brilliantly. Charlie turned around, "Hey, that's the new student." I leaned in towards him, "What's her name? Do you know?" Mr. Phillips stood up, smacked his ruler on his desk. "Class!" He closed the room door, in which Moody quickly slid in before he completely closed the door. Mr. Phillips scrunched his nose, "Moody, morning, and be here ON TIME next class." He closed the door and locked it to not allow anyone else who was late. "Ok, before we start. I see everyone here has noticed a new student." The girl stood near the door, and all eyes darted to her existence in the room. "Miss, your name?" She flinched a bit, and replied back, "Anne. Which ends with an E sir." She then said, "Anne, Anne Shirley-Cuthbert." She gave him a meek smile, Mr. Phillips pointed to an open seat. I hear Josie whisper although it wasn't really a whisper, "Isn't that the Cuthbert's orphan?" People whisper as Anne stood awkwardly, "Go sit next to Miss. Barry." She looked over to see the seat open for her. Diana smiled at her as Anne started making her way to the seat. I followed her with my eyes. "Pss. Gil, what do you think of her this far?" I still looking at Anne, "Well, she's a cutie isnt' she not?" Charlie shrugged his shoulders, "I suppose so." I hear a snicker in the back of the room, "Why is there a dirty Cheeto in the room? Don't they belong in the trash?" She turned around to see Billy snickering with his friends. Diana comforted her, "Don't worry about him. He's nothing." Tillie from behind Anne leans in, "Yeah he's a major knucklehead." Diana turns to Jane sitting to her left, and whispers, "Can't you do something about it Jane?" Jane nods, and turns toward Billy, "Shh, Billy be nice or I'll tell mom!" Smack "CLASS!" Mr. Phillips interrupted the commotion. "We must start our lesson. Get out your books." We all got our books and notebooks out.

While the lesson was going, I sneakily took my phone out and sent a text to Diana.

I looked up from my desk, looked around the room, Mr. Phillips' back was all we could see at the front of the room. I could see Moody almost falling asleep, Josie messing with her braids and undo them over a few times, and I see Billy from the back of the room tossing small bits of paper towards Cole's desk while Cole brushes them off to continue drawing in his notebook, and I look over toward Diana & Anne. Diana slides Anne a note, and Anne quietly takes it, making sure Mr. Phillips doesn't turn around. She looks at the note: "What's your #?? :)" She quickly writes her number down on the paper and carefully hands it back to Diana. I smile slightly at the successful favor done for me. Diana slightly looks over to see if I saw what I happen. Diana texts Anne:
