Chapter 1

Playing the piano in my room I heard my mom call me "Emma!". I stopped playing and walked down the hall into the kitchen. My mom was a petite blonde hair blue eyed beauty as my dad liked to call her. I got my dads brown hair and greens eyes but got her petite size.

My dad died in a car accident 4 years ago when I was 12 on his way home from work and its been just me and my mom ever since. Before he died I used to play piano and sing in contests but after his accident I stopped playing in public and my mom is the only person

that knows I still play.

"Yes?" I asked aside sat down on a stool. She turned around as I said this and looked at me with excited eyes. "Guess what!?" she said squealing like a schoolgirl. My mom and I have always been close so I just laughed at her and said "What, did you meet someone?" I asked sarcastically. She rolled her eyes at me and said "No, I got a new job!".

I looked at her with wide eyes. She has been trying to get a new job for months now. She works in an office as a secretary. She's always hated it and has been looking for a new job that pays better. " Really? That's awesome mom! I'm so happy for you." I jumped up and gave her a quick hug. "And that's not all. You might want to sit down for this." I sat down and looked at her confused "Ok honey the job is in Minnesota." My jaw dropped as she said this. I was still shocked when she added "And were leaving in two weeks.".

This pulled me out of my shocked state. I looked at her and said "Ok as long as this is what you really want then I'm all for it." This time it was her turn to be shocked. I smiled at her and added "I don't really have friends here so its not that big of a deal for me."

She squealed again and hugged me saying "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I laughed at her and said "Mom you've seriously got to stop the squealing, its starting to hurt my ears." She pulled pack and looked at me sheepishly and said "Sorry sweetie I'm just so excited." I gave her another quick hug then sat down. We sat together for another hour just talking before my stomach growled. We both laughed as my mom said "Hungry much?" with an eyebrow raised and a sarcastic smile. I laughed and nodded my head yes, and she said "Why don't we just get take-out today to celebrate?" I smiled and nodded again.

As she was ordering I went to take a shower. By the time I was out and dressed the food was already here and my mom was watching America's Funniest Home Videos in the living room. I jumped onto the couch and we talked and watched tv for two more hours before I had to go to sleep. That night I went to sleep with a smile on my face thinking that nothing could go wrong.

How wrong I was.
