Chapter 16

Chapter 16 

We made our way to his car which was a 1978 Mustang. Yes I knew stuff about cars, sue me! We got in and I asked "Are you gonna tell me where your taking me?" I looked at him with my best puppy dog eyes and he laughed and said "No way it's a surprise and it's going to stay that way." I turned in my seat and crossed my arms across my chest and mumbled "I hate surprises." He chuckled at me pouting and said "I can tell." After a few minutes of comfortable silence we arrived at a park and he pulled over. He got out and made his way to my side to open the car door for me. I slipped out of the car and he grabbed my hand and we started walking towards the woods. When we made it to the edge I saw a path that led inside. He turned to me and said "Ok close your eyes and don't peek." I narrowed my eyes at him and said "How do I know your not trying to lure me in there where you'll rape and kill me huh?" he chuckled and said "You watch way to much tv. Trust me, I wont, I promise." I narrowed my eyes at him again but did as I was told. I grabbed my free hand and told me when to step up and down and when there was a tree root that I could trip over. After what seemed like forever he let go of my hand and I started panicking I called his name and almost took my hand away but he stopped me and said "Sorry had to add a finishing touch." I breathed a sigh of relief and nodded and he said "Ok now you can open your eyes." I put my hand down and was stunned by what I saw. There were lanterns hanging in all of the trees around us and a picnic set up right in the middle. J turned to Alex and put my arms around his waist and said "It's beautiful. It must have taken you hours to do this!" He smiled down at me and said "Only three, but I would do so much more for you." I blushed and looked away from him. He cupped my face and gave me a quick and gentle kiss. He pulled away and we stood there looking into eachothers eyes for a few minutes before he tore his gaze away, grabbed my hand and pulled me to the blanket as he said "Let's eat." We sat down and ate and talked for a couple hours. It was so easy to be with Alex, I didn't have to act like someone I wasn't when I was around him and I loved that.  

Were just sitting and talking when we both heard a branch snap as if someone stepped on it. I looked at Alex and whispered "Did you hear that?" he nodded and got up to go see what it was. When he was gone I started to get scared. Scary thoughts ran through my head, has someone come to kill us? Is it the guy that has been stalking me? Would he follow us here? I heard another branch crack and turned in the direction that I thought it came from and was surprised to see someone standing there. It WAS the guy that had been stalking me! I still couldn't see his face because of the Hood he always wears but I sure could here his laughter. I started to back away from him and was about to turn and run when he said something that stopped me dead in my tracks. "Don't you wanna know what really happened to your parents and sister?" he said. I looked at him with wide eyes as I stumbled out " Wh-who are you? What do you w-want?" he laughed at me again and said "You'll find out very soon Emma. Don't worry." and with that he left without another word. I sat there stunned and wrapped my arms around my knees. Alex came back a few minutes later and said "I couldn't fi-....." but he didn't finish and was by my side in less than a second."Emma what happened? Dang this is all my fault I shouldn't have left you by yourself!" I stopped him and put my hand on his cheek and said "Alex..... I don't think my parents deaths were accidents. I think the person that killed my sister killed them too." Alex was so shocked by what I said that he didn't know how to react. He pulled me into him and placed me in his lap and just held me. "I'm being stalked Alex." He pulled back and looked at me with sad eyes. "Nobody is going to hurt you Emma. I promise" We got up and he pulled me into another hug and said "We need to get you home and tell your uncle he'll know what to do." I nodded and he grabbed my hand.  

The whole way back to his car I was the most paranoid I had ever been. He pulled me into him and put his arm around my waist protect me but I was still jumpy. We got back to the house at 11 o'clock. Uncle Simon and Isaac were both surprised to see us back so early and smiled but their smiles soon faded when we told them what happened and what I thought happened to my parents. They both had grim expressions on their faces when we finished and nobody spoke for a few minutes. Uncle Simon finally spoke up and said "Ok Emma I'm gonna hire a guard to be with you 24-7 so that we can make sure he doesn't get to you. We'll go down to the police station in the morning but right now I want everybody to get a good night sleep. Alex you can stay over if you want I'm sure Isaac could lend you some clothes." with that he nodded and left the room. I headed up to my room with Isaac and Alex. Alex went to Isaac's room to change while I got ready. When I was finished he came and got into bed with me. We fell asleep that night in eachothers arms without any words being said.
