Chapter 2
I woke up with a dreading feeling. I walked to the kitchen to find my mom but she wasn't there. I found a note that read
"Sweetie,
had to go into work early
Love you,
Mom"
As I put the note down I heard the doorbell ring. I walked up to the door thinking 'Who would be here this early?'. I opened the door with a smile which immediately faded when I saw the two cops with grim looks on their faces. "Emma Walker, my name is Officer Adams and this is my partner Officer Woods. Could we please come in?" I nodded and opened the door more to let them in.
I lead them to the living room and sat down. "What's this about officers?" I asked them confused. They looked at eachother then back at me as if they didn't know how to give me the news. "Did something happen?" I asked when neither answered my first question. Officer Woods finally cleared his throat and said "Ms.Walker your mother was involved in an accident this morning." I looked at them with tears threatening to spill over. "She's okay though right? She has to be ok." My voice cracking in all the wrong places as I said this. Officer Adams spoke this time and said "We're very sorry Ms.Walker, she was pronounced dead on the scene." The dam of tears finally broke when he said this. I cradeld my head in my hands and just cried until there were no more tears left. Both Officer Adams and Woods stayed while I was crying which surprised me the most.
"Do you have any family that you can live with?" Officer Adams asked as I pulled myself together."I think I have an uncle but I've never met him before, he was my fathers brother." They both nodded and Officer Adams said "That's fine we'll get in contact with him right away. While we track him down you'll have to come with us. You can pack a bag then we'll leave." They stood up and walked to the front door. "We'll wait in the car for you." said Officer Woods.
I walked numbly to my room thinking 'She's dead.' I couldn't believe after everything that has happened both of my parents were taken from me in car accidents. I packed slowly wishing I could just sit and play piano in my room just like I do every morning. When I finally finished I walked to my front door and was almost to the cop car when I turned around and said my final good-bye to my house I had known for so long.
I got in the car and had silent tears running down my face when we made it to the station. I had only been there for a few minutes and I already knew I hated it. We walked into the Chief's office and as soon as he saw me pity was written all over his face. Not wanting anymore pity I took a seat and no one said anything to me and I soon fell asleep.
***************
I was running. I couldn't stop running. I was trying to make my mom stop her car but she couldn't hear me. She soon pulled away but I didn't stop running. I heard a loud crash and saw my moms car smashed. I ran to her but all I saw was blood everywhere. I screamed and shot straight up. I sighed, it was just a dream.
Officer Adams came into the room holding his gun and looking around the room for someone. As soon as he saw there was no one there he came to my side. "Are you ok? What happened? Why did you scream?" his questions came out so fast that I barely understood what he was saying.Barely."I'm fine,it was just a bad dream." I said to reassure him but it came out sounding like I was trying to reassure myself rather than him. He nodded his head then said "We found your uncle. He's getting on a plane tonight and should be here by noon tomorrow." I nodded and then asked "Why is it taking so long for his flight to get in?" "Your uncle lives in London." I felt my mouth drop when he said this. I couldn't believe I was going to live in London!
