6:43.

jisung watched the clock tick, swinging his long legs under the dinner table. it was chenle's 'big date night' and jisung couldn't stop thinking about it.

it's not like it was even a real date. that's what jisung kept telling himself anyway. it was just a stupid 'study date' to finish an even stupider school project.

it didn't mean anything.

6:44.

it didn't mean anything.

"jisung, you've barely touched your food," said their mom, an expression of concern washing over her face, "is everything alright?"

jisung was drawn back to the reality of his entire family staring at him around the table. "huh? y-yeah... i'm fine, just not hungry i guess," he mumbled.

donghyuck frowned and kicked his younger brother under the table. jisung choked back a yell of pain, turning the outburst into a coughing fit - which donghyuck found hilarious, of course.

"are you sure you're okay, jisungie?" asked his dad, looking rather confused at the situation.

"he's fine," donghyuck answered for him, since jisung was busy drinking water to clear his throat, "he's just... got a lot on his mind."

jisung shot a glare in his brother's direction.

"oh," said their mom, sounding genuinely alarmed for her baby, "what's worrying you, honey?"

'your sexuality,' donghyuck mouthed whilst jisung was still glaring at him.

"nothing, mom. everything's fine." it was then jisung's turn to kick donghyuck under the table.

"ow! stop attacking me, you rat," donghyuck objected loudly.

jisung gave a long sigh.

"are you sure you're not hungry?" their mom asked, glancing down at jisung's barely touched food.

"yeah... i-" jisung cut himself off at the sound of his notification bell. he instantly checked his phone, half hopeful and half dreading what the notification would be.

jisung nearly choked on his water.

"jisung, what did i say about phones at the table?" his mom sighed in exasperation, just about ready to give up on her mission to get her teenage son to eat his dinner.

jisung scrambled to read the text, ignoring the 'no phones' rule they had in their household. the rule had only come into place recently because of donghyuck anyway, back when he used to text xiyeon 24/7 and blank everyone else that tried to talk to him at the same time.

jisung was out of that kitchen in a second. he left his untouched dinner behind and sped out into the hallway to stuff his feet into the nearest pair of sneakers, much to his mother's objection.

"hey, those are mine!" donghyuck yelled after him.

"sorry!" jisung called, already halfway out the front door.

"they cost sixty dollars, you pig-" donghyuck was cut off by the sound of the door slamming shut. "fine, borrow them, sure..."

"where on earth is he going now?" donghyuck's mom looked about ready to pull her own hair out. "that boy is in so much trouble when he-"
