I was still worried about Ian. Sure he seemed happy and always smiling but I knew a deep dark secret that haunted me about him.

We walked in the park on a cold winter day holding hands. "So umm did you ever tell your parents about what happened on the day we met?"

"It never came up" Ian replied as we sat on the cold rusty swings

"Are you ever going to tell them?" I asked softly

"Why should I?" He asked offensively

"Well I just think that if you tell them maybe they will change" I said

"You maybe smart but right now your not!!" Ian said

"Please Ian lets go talk to them" I said wiggling his arm

"Okay if we go to my house right now and my father is home than I will tell them both"

"That's not even fair. He is never home, but fine" I said taking a chance

By the time we had gotten to Ian's house I was sound asleep in the back if his car

"I can't believe it" Ian said waking me up

I rubbed my eyes "what is it? Pretzels?"

"No, my fathers car is parked in the driveway" Ian said as we got out his car

"OMG" I ran inside

"Mackenzie what are you doing?" Ian asked running after me and wrapping his arms around my waist

"I want to see him" I replied

He ran his fingers through his hair "Dad?"

"Dad are you home?" He asked again

"Son?" A really deep voice asked

"Oh so your his father" I whispered

"Where's mom?" Ian asked emotionless

"In the living room" his father said looking at me "who is this?"

Ian intertwined my hand with his "my girlfriend"

"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked

"Your never home" Ian said frustrated

"Well you could of went to my office" his father said

"I need to talk to you and mom in the living room" Ian said taking his hand away from mine

He brushed a hair away from my face "Go back down to the basement Mackenzie, I have to do this alone"

"Can I wait here in the hallway?" I asked not wanting to be separated from Ian in his enormous house

"Sure" Ian said as his father and him went into the living room and shut the door behind then

I was uneasy being in the hallway for what seemed like hours. I looked at some of the pictures they had hung up. There weren't many. One of Ian's mom, dad, Ian, and one that had the three of them in it. It looked like the perfect picture. They were on the beach. Ian's father was giving Ian a piggy back ride and Ian's mom was laughing. Of course the picture was taken when Ian must I been six or seven.

"How did it go?" I asked as Ian came out

"It worked!" Ian said hugging me "they are going to change" I didn't think it was possible it was like a miracle.

"It actually worked" I whispered

"It did thanks to you!" Ian said

"Who's hungry?" Ian's mom said smiling

"No thanks Mackenzie and I just ate lunch" Ian said "were going downstairs"

"Nice to officially meet you both!" I said as Ian and I went to his room

I put my back against a wall "Your an only child right?"

"Yeah" Ian said

"Do you think they are going to change like they say they will?" I asked not feeling to confident

"Yeah I think they will!" Ian said being totally chill

After one month Ian started to get depressed again. He no longer talk in excitement. He was always sad and wanted to be alone. I called Ian one night but he didn't I just thought that he was busy with his family or something but the next day he didn't go to school so I jumped into my car and drove to his house.

"Ian are you here?" I asked going through the back door in the basement. There he was....laying on the floor with a bottle of pills and a note next to him.

"Ian wake up" I said trying to wake him up "Ian" he didn't respond. I called an ambulance. "IAN" I cried with my mascara running down my face.

The note read...

        Dear, Mackenzie Sanford

I knew it would be you who would find me and this letter because your the first ever person who really cared about me. I am so sorry that I hurt you. I just couldn't take it anymore. They promise...they said they would change but the didn't. I knew it sounded to good to be true. You were my first ever true love. I am terribly sorry. I don't even know what to say. You couldn't have done anything so please don't blame yourself. This is all because of me. I'm sorry....the best thing for you to do is to just move on. I don't want you to cry for me so please stop crying. I love you so much. You don't even know how much I love you. Thank you for being there for me when I needed you. Your the best girlfriend any guy could ask for. Thank you.

                                                                Love,
                                                                               Ian

The doctors declared him dead when they arrived. He had overdosed. All because of his ungrateful and self centered parents.

And that's....
