"Asking about Kayla?" Steve put his arm in front of me protectively. "The fuck do they want with my girl-"
"Steve, just chill, baby," I said while ribbing his arm soothingly. He mentally calmed down an put his arm around my shoulder. "They probably got the wrong house."
"And the wrong Kayla?" He asked sarcastically but I ignored him as we made our way back into the house. "After they leave I'm taking you and the kids out, okay?"
I smiled and nodded just as we made it to the front door. I saw two police officers at the front door with serious facades.
"Hi, is there something wrong?"
The taller one with deepened laugh lines but a younger face chuckled dryly. He sized Steve up then fixed his gaze on me.
"We have something to tell you both," his voice was deep but smooth. "May we come in?"
Steve pulled me closer and lifted my chin before giving me a kiss. I blushed as he placed his hand on the arch in my back and bit and sucked my lips.
"Steve, stop," I softly pushed him away while turning my head and blinking. "Uh," I looked over to see them frowning and looking away awkwardly. "Steve." I gave him a warning look and he nonchalantly shrugged before pecking my lips and opening the door wider.
"Come in," As they shuffled in and Steve followed behind them, leaving me to close the door I saw a handsome red head with a dress shirt and tight jeans walking up to the house.
He was looking down at a note pad and a box he was caring, mumbling things under his breath. When he looked up his eyes grew wide and he bit his pink lip.
"Babe, are you coming?"
"There's a man coming to the door is he with you guys or..." I asked just as soon as he got to the porch and stared down at me.
"Oh, he's the detective–"
"Conner Lee," he rasped with a wink and I felt Steve's eyes on me as I looked away. "Um, detective Lee." He held out his hand for me to shake.
I shook it and he took it upon himself to kiss my knuckles, I slipped my hand out of his grasp and shook my head.
"That's sweet but I don't think my boyfriend would like that," I said and Steve glared at the young detective. "Let's keep it professional, yeah?"
He cleared his throat nodded before fixing his buttons.
"Of course," he said while walking over to where the men were. As I went to go close the door I heard him talking in a stern voice. "Very nice to meet you."
I turned around and saw him shaking Steve's hand. I walked over to Steve and sat down on the couch.
"So, what's this all about?" Steve asked and put and arm around me while staring into each and every one of their souls.
"I'm not one to sugar coat things, but for you," he directed his eyes towards me before smiling. "I guess it'll do some good."
"Is he serious–"
"Calm down, love." I said quietly while caressing my thumb over the back of his hand. He looked at me and I think I saw literal heart eyes as he laid his head on my shoulder.
"But your mine and he keeps flirting." He pouted and I chuckled while shaking my head then motioned my hand for them to continue.
"I think you both know about the situation concerning Gabriel Thinner, correct?" He asked while leaning on the wall.
