Waiting on the world to change

One day I began to imagine

What it would be like if I ruled the world

If I had the power to make the laws

And the government was under my control

I imagined that I would ensure

Wars were only fought out of necessity

That way more of my people could live

And enjoy time with their family

I would be honest with my subjects

I’d tell my people the truth

I would instill programs that were beneficial

I’d sincerely care for the elderly and the youth

I would visit orphans and the homeless

I’d give those who were hungry, food to eat

I would donate money and time to charities

And cloth those who lived on the streets

Then a thought entered my head

What if right now I could do something

Instead of relying on others and the government

To do every single thing

I just laughed at that crazy idea

I wasn’t important, what could I possibly do?

I might as well make excuses like everyone else

I’d wait on the world to change, too.
