Disastrous Dinner Ch.8

"Honey dinner is served!" Mrs.Dobrik yells. A big man comes from out a room and makes his way to the table. Liza stares at his features. You can definitely tell that he's David's father. She smiled at him politely but he just gave her a confused stare.

"Uh, dad?" David speaks up. "Yes, son?" He says now staring at Jade. "This is-um- Liza and that baby over there is Jade. Jade's my uh... daughter" David says slowly and Mr.Dobrik nearly chokes on his steak his wife cooked.

"What about Angela?" He says clearly confused. "Uh, we didn't really work out after I told her about Liza and the baby". There was a pause. "Goddammit, David I liked Angela she wasn't a whore like other kids at your school" "Adam your language!" Mrs.Dobrik says.

"Yeah I prefer Angela over Liza" Ester says picking at her food. David shoots Ester a dirty look as Liza shrinks in her seat. "Um I've met your siblings Sara and Toby but I haven't met you, what's your name?" Liza asks Ester and she rolls her eyes.

"My name is Ester and I don't care if your David's baby momma but I honestly care less about you so it's better if you leave now and not get in between our family," she says and Liza's taken back.

"I-I'm sorry I didn't mean-"Liza starts but Mrs.Dobrik interrupts "Ester you're grounded that's it!" "But mom! I-" "No Christina, Ester is right. David shouldn't have to live with his mistake, I bet you were under the influence huh?" Mr.Dobrik says.

"We were but-" "And Liza! Let's talk more about you. You got pregnant at 17, that's the first red flag to a woman. It shows that she has no class or dignity even. And we wouldn't want an unfit mother in our family now would we?" He says and Liza starts getting hot.

"And your parents! They must be ashamed of you I bet!" He chuckles coldly. "How are you parents, Liza?" "Dad stop now" "No really, I mean-did your mother or father teach you anything about not whoring around?" He teases.

Liza's eyes fill with tears as David clenched his jaw. "I bet your dad was furious I gotta tell ya-And your mom?" "Dad her mom is dead and her father left her when she was fourteen!" David interrupted yelling.

"Will you excuse me?" Liza says hurriedly as she gets up from the table and runs to the bathroom and locks herself there.

"Dad what the hell is your problem?!" David says slamming his hand on the table. "David your language" "I don't care! Dad does it feel good to destroy a seventeen-year-old girl like that?!" David asked sarcastically.

"Who do you think you're yelling at!" Mr.Dobrik yells and David glared at the man before him. "Both of you, stop it! Ester, Sara, and Toby go to your rooms" Mrs.Dobrik says and they all disperse.

"David I'm going to check on Liza-" "No I will, you guys are probably the last people she'd want to see right now," he says scolding his dad.

He softly knocks on the door of the bathroom. "I'll be out in a second!" Liza yells with her voice wavering and David's heart saddens. "It's me, Liza, I'm taking you home," He says through the door and then the door slowly opens revealing a hurt girl.

"Come on, I'll take you and Jade home," he says bringing in Liza for a hug. The two walk past Mr and Mrs.Dobrik as they pack Jade's things. Sara and Toby head towards the two, with Ester slowly following behind them and give Liza a hug that catches her by surprise.

"We're sorry that you had to go like this, our dad is just-" "It's okay, no need to worry," Liza says plastering a smile to the two kids. "We hope that we can see you again soon Liza," Sara says. "and we're sorry for our rude sister, she's not usually this snappy" Toby adds.

"That's fine" Liza giggles and Sara and Toby smile as if it were their mission to make Liza happy and they succeeded. "Well I'm going to head out now, it was nice meeting you guys," Liza says giving the twelve and nine-year-old a hug.

"You ready?" David asked and she nodded her head yes as the three walked out of the house.

"Adam what was that?!" Mrs.Dobrik yelled at her husband. "What? I was simply just trying to make conversation, I didn't know her parents weren't around" he shrugged and Christina lost it.

"You knew exactly of what you were doing! You enjoyed belittling that poor girl didn't you?" she said and Adam rolled his beady eyes. "So what? It doesn't matter now, she's gone" "No, you are apologizing to her when she comes back," Mrs.Dobrik says. "She's coming back?" Mr.Dobrik groaned. "Yes, we are inviting her over to do this the right way!" Mrs.Dobrik says before storming out of the dining room.

"Are you sure you're okay?" David asks and Liza sighs deeply. "To be honest, not really but everything your dad said was true, I'm from a broken family and I'm an unfit mother. I should just stay away from you and your family before I screw something up" she rants and David sighs and pulls over.

"Liza you are the best person I've ever met in my life. I wouldn't trade you for the world. Yeah maybe you don't have the best home life but everyone's a little broken. And it takes certain people to help fix them. Please, don't say that you're an unfit mother because you are truly one of the strongest people I have ever met".

"Thank you" is all Liza whispers with a small smile. They look at each other before slowly inching towards one another. They were now only an inch apart before they get startled by a knocking on the passengers' side of the window.

It was a middle-aged woman with a flashlight, signaling for David to roll down the window. David does so and the woman speaks up. "You kids can't park in front of my house you got it?!"

"Uh yeah sorry, we were just leaving" David replies politely and the woman huffs and walks back to her house.

David and Liza look at each other before they bust out laughing.
