Percy's POV
I knew she was going to find out, eventually. So when she came to me during my second lesson of the day (which she was supposed to be at) and told me that she knew about me being the scrawny kid from 6th grade she used to pick on, I was kind of speechless.
"Um..." I tried to think of something to say. "How did you find out?" I asked.
"I went into the woods and saw your pet hellhound, Mrs. O'Leary. I saw her name tag. It had you're first and last name on it." Nancy said rather matter a factly.
She was smarter than I gave her credit for. But... "You went into the woods alone! Really, Nancy?" I felt my temper flare up inside of me. "Are you that willing to put your life on the line, that you'll go into the woods alone? DO YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF CREATURES ARE IN THOSE WOODS? DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY CAMPERS WE'VE LOST IN THERE?" My voice became really quiet as I remembered all the kids who had gone into those woods and never come back out.
"...and I won't do it again...it's just that....but you're not denying it...you're Percy Jackson?" She asked her eyes in wonder.
"Yeah..." I said. I was kinda uncertain about her reaction.
"Why didn't you tell me before?"
"Does it matter that much if you know who I am. I'm not who I was back in 6th grade. I'm a better Percy than I was five or six years ago. And anyway I don't want you thinking of me as that scrawny kid that you bullied all those years ago. Can we just move past this?" I pleaded.
Nancy nodded in agreement. She started biting her lip, as she thought hard about something.
"Who's Jason?"
It felt like a punch in the gut. I couldn't let myself think about him. It was too fresh. The wound of his death was too clean, I just couldn't.
"Nancy," I muttered through the pain. "Don't mention that name for a while. You won't get answers, ok?" I asked as the pain of his death subsided. But I knew that forgetting was like a drug. It was addictive. But one day I'd have to learn to live without it. Or I'd be dead just like he was.
I know that this chapter is short. I'm so sorry! I just feel like it's so hard to make the chapters longer, especially if I really want to change POV's. Please check out my other stories. Thanks for reading!
