Chapter 1 - The day begins

Raindrops were splashing against the old dusty window. The loud sound of the screeching trees caused Alice to wake up.
Ugh... what time is it? Better question which day!?
She raised her head slowly to get a glimpse on the display of her phone.
"MONDAY 8:26?!! FUCK! I'M GETTING LATE TO MY FIRST DAY OF INTERNSHIP", she screamed out.
Alice jumped out of bed and strapped a black hoodie over her thin body. After 10 minutes of preparing she finally ran towards the door.
"Keys.. Keys.. KEYS... where are you?!", she mumbled to herself.
When Alice finally got a grip on them, she went outside and unlocked her loved bicycle.
Ah... good old rusty Steve, my loyal companion please go into full speed mode.
The girl made one last check of her backpack and strapped her brown curly hair into a ponytail while she started to pedal.

It was exactly 9 o'clock when she finally came bursted into the big CBI building. Exhausted and gasping for air Alice knocked on the office of her new boss.
"Come in"
Okay, don't freak out I know you are nervous, but this is your big chance of finally accomplishing something in your life...DON'T MESS IT UP
"Ah, you must be Alice Miller, the new learner! Good! I'm special Agent Teresa Lisbon and I have to add you are perfectly on time, I appreciate that", said the woman with dark brown bangs while starring at her watch.
"Yes mam, um... Boss I'm really excited to be here and work with your great team", replied the girl nervously.
"So, let's not waste any more time, I want you to meet my team."
With those words Lisbon sprang out of her chair and pointed at Alice as a sign for following her.
They came into an open office area with many working tables and a huge comfortable looking couch.
"Okay listen up! This is Alice Miller, she will be a part of our team due to her internship, please explain her all the important things about our work, I need to make some phone calls with the sheriff of a small village near Sacramento. It looks like we'll get a new case.", Lisbon announced firmly while turning around and making her way back to her office.
The girl stared awkwardly at her new coworkers which came closer to her now for a Welcoming introduction.

Van Pelt, Cho and Rigsby were pretty impressed of her for doing this internship at such a young age.
"And you are seriously just 20? That's crazy!", verbalized Rigsby with his mouth full of Tacos.
Cho interrupted his chewing: "There's nothing wrong about dealing with such important topics in young age. I started my career as a young adult as well."
After all of the discussions Lisbon came back to the team to announce a new case: 22-year-old Megan Parker was found dead with cut off legs in a pond near Breckenridge. Van Pelt, Rigsby you two come with me to the crime scene. Cho, you will stay here with Alice and Jane until I give the ok for her to join. Wait... where is Jane even?!
Everyone looked clueless around the office.
Lisbon sighed: "Whatever let's go."
I wonder who that Jane person is... sounds like a woman coworker? Hmm...

After the team left Cho showed Alice her new working desk. It was in a cozy corner facing to the still comfy looking couch.
"Um... excuse me I'm really thirsty, do you have an office kitchen maybe?", asked the girl shyly. Cho, who was busy typing on his Keyboard simply pointed his finger to the right. She nodded thankfully and went away.
The kitchen wasn't big, for the sake of Alice because she got really confused about finding things. Starting to fill a cup of water, the girl was so distracted that she didn't notice the guy sneaking up behind her.
"Hey! Are you the new internship girl?", asked the man with curly blond hair.
Alice flinched and dropped her mug which shattered into hundreds of little pieces. Instantly the man apologized and started to clean the mess on the floor.
"I'm soooo sorry, I didn't want to scare you!!!"
The girl which was still in shock just stared frozen on the floor.
What the hell is his problem?! Who does that I could have died!!! Stupid anxiety makes it even worse... please no panic attack now...
After he finished cleaning up he rested his glance at her, studying her expression carefully.
"Is everything alright?", he asked.
Finally Alice snapped out of her thoughts and cleared her throat.
"Yes sorry. It was my fault I should have been more careful with the cup... I kind of got distracted because of my thoughts. And yeah, I'm Alice Miller nice to meet you", she responds hesitantly. His eyes were still fixed on her with a strange expression that Alice couldn't define. Maybe because she was trying to avoid his starring by rather looking around the kitchen.
"No, it's not your fault, I just came in like a ghost... that wasn't okay of me. Anyway, my name is Patrick Jane, I'm the consultor for crime and pleased to work with you. He got the brightest smile on his face, a smile that Alice never seen before. Even without glimpsing at him she could feel the presence of it which sounded definitely weird.
Okay this guy is really strange... I should go and never talk to him again to prevent awkward situations like this one.
"Well um okay! I should really get back to work... See you later", Alice muffled.
She turned around and sprinted out of the room without turning back.
Jane watched her rushing away while taking a sip of his tea he made earlier.
"Interesting girl", he whispered
