Iris looked around. As Professor Merrythought was writing on the board, no one seemed that interested in her lesson. Glenda, Veronica, Beatrice and Dorcas were chatting happily on the back of the room, just as Mary and Marlene were doing, on the table beside the one Iris and Lily were sharing. A few roles behind them, the boys from Hufflepuff were apparently flirting with Cheryl and Tina, the two other girls from Gryffindor. And then, there were James, Sirius, Peter and Remus sitting together in pairs, but, to Iris' great surprise, they weren't talking among each other. In fact, Remus seemed a bit hurt every time James leaned over to Sirius to whisper something at him.

She smiled over at him and he did the same, but when his eyes travelled back to the board behind the old Professor, his eyes widened and he gulped. Peter looked at him and gave what seemed to be an assuring smile and Remus thanked him with a nod.

"Very well... Today we'll be talking about werewolves." Professor Merrythought announced and Iris turned around to face the front of the classroom again. "Anyone can explain to me what a werewolf is? Miss Evans?"

"A werewolf..." Lily began, since, as usual, she knew all the answers. "Is a human being who transforms in a near-wolf every full moon night."

"Very good." Merrythought praised. "And what else? Mr. Humbleman?"

"A human turns into a werewolf when he's bitten by another werewolf." Logan, one of the boys from Hufflepuff, answered.

"That's correct." The Professor nodded. "Something else... No one? Very well, then... As Miss Lily Evans and Mr. Humbleman have correctly put for us, a werewolf is indeed a human being, who, upon being bitten by another werewolf in a full moon night, develops what we call , also known as werewolfry. When the werewolf's saliva mingles with the blood, contamination will occur and as we all know, there's no cure for this disease. A mixture of powdered and applied to a fresh bite will seal the wound and allow the victim to live on as a werewolf, although tragic tales are told of begging for death rather than becoming werewolves."

Iris frowned and flinched at that statement, almost missing a low whine coming from somewhere behind her. Before she even had had the time to spin around to check on her friends, Professor Merrythought was talking once more.

"A werewolf is very easily confused by a normal wolf, but there are some differences easily spotted between the two. Can someone tell me what they are?"

She passed her intense grey eyes through the classroom and noticed Glenda's hand raised.

"Miss Kolouski?"

"A werewolf has a shorter snout, more human-like eyes, tufted tail, and they mindless hunt humans whilst in wolf form." She said.

"Very good. That similarity with normal wolves is one of the things that make them so dangerous. Wizards and Witches as well instructed as yourselves can easily tell them apart and defend themselves when needed, but Muggles can't and so, when they are bitten, there is a very high chance of death, since their blood is a lot different from ours." She said, before turning to face Iris. Saying they didn't like each other was an understatement. Since her First Year, their different visions upon the creatures that lived among Wizards and Iris' constant need of defending them created a barrier between the two that no words could ever penetrate anymore. "Now... They hunt down Wizards and Muggles passing down their curse to them and sometimes, even killing. Do you, Miss Evans, have anything to say today?"

"It isn't their fault, though, is it, Professor?" She said, and Professor Merrythought glared at her.

"I'm sorry?"
