"Jane what's the matter?" I ask.
"I've read every book in this library, but I've never seen this one." She says.
"Maybe you just missed it." Evie suggests.
"No. I would know if I missed it. I've read every book in this library and I've looked in every nook and cranny for a book I haven't read. This book wasn't here before." Jane says adamantly. I dust off the top of it.
"The Prophecy of Auradon. That's weird." I say. Jane opens the book.
"It says here that when King Beast divided the world into good and evil, an Oracle came to him and told him of an ancient prophecy that would inevidably become fulfilled." Jane reads. We all exchange looks.
"Well what's the Prophecy?" Evie asks.
"The actions of one shall plant the seed of another and with it comes the destruction of the force that divides good and evil, thus forcing them to become one. Only the one who possesses a spark can light the darkness and lay to rest the fallen." Jane reads on. Harry and I look at each other.
"Who could that be about?" Mal asks.
"No idea." Uma says.  Mal takes the book.
"I'll ask Beast." Mal says.
"I'll go with you." Uma says.
"Yeah we'll all go." Gil says taking my hand. I nod. We head up to Beast's quarters. As we knock, he answers the door.
"Can I help you lady Mal?" He asks softly. He notices the book in Mal's hands. He looks at it with disdain.
"We tried so hard to hide that book," He says, "it was only supposed to show itself in the presence of the person who will fulfill the prophecy." Harry and I exchange a look of worry.
"Who told you about the prophecy?" Jane asks. Beast clears his throat. He looks directly at me.
"Well first, it wasn't an Oracle who told me. It was an ordinary person. She claimed to have had a dream of it happening." Beast says. His eye contact with me never broke. I gulp.
"Well who was it?" Jane persists.
"Your mother Pandora." He says still not breaking eye contact with me.
"Wait. My mother died trying to get off the isle." I protest.
"That's what they told you. She was rescued. Your mother survived." Beast says pushing his glasses into place. I stand there in disbelief. Gil grips my hand. Harry stares at me.
"Well who is she?" Uma asks breaking the silence.
"She asked me never to tell. She said she wanted nothing to do with a child born of the isle." Beast says. My heart sank. My mother wanted nothing to do with me, just like my father. Harry looks at me with a look of sorrow. We leave Beast's quarters and go outside.
"My mother is alive." I say.
"I know. We'll figure this out." Uma says hugging my shoulders. I twist my body away from her and run off towards the beach on the far side of Auradon Prep. I pass by the tourney fields and tears stream down my cheeks. I collapse on the sand in front of the water and just cry. I feel like I can't breathe. I stare out at the ocean towards the isle.
"I should never have come here," I mutter to myself. The sun starts to set but only just. I curl myself into a ball and cry. Suddenly I feel a hand touch my shoulder. I look up to see Harry standing over me. He has a look of sympathy on his face. He sits down next to me without saying anything. I release myself from the ball and look at him. He tries to smile, but it doesn't come. He takes off his hook, something I've never seen him do before, and with both hands he pulls me in close to him. I burst into tears and bury my face in his chest.
"I'm so sorry Panda," he finally says.
"My own mother didn't want me and my father abandoned me when I was a baby," I sob.
"I never even knew my mother, and my father died the same time yours took off. I understand. I'm here for you. Always." He says without missing a beat.
"What am I supposed to do?" I cry.
"Well, I think we need to find your mother." Harry says.
"How? Beast won't tell us who she is." I say wiping my eyes.
"Maybe there's some kind of truth spell we can ask Mal to use." Harry says. I nod. Harry helps me to my feet.
"Let's go back to the others." He says. I take his hand and we walk back towards the tourney field. Everyone is standing there waiting.
"Panda are you okay?" Uma asks.
"Umm..." Gil says looking down at mine and Harry's hands. I pull away quickly.
"Yeah. We came up with a plan. Mal is there a truth spell you can use on Beast?" I ask.
"Yeah, I was thinking that too. It would look less suspicious if just me and you went though." Mal looks at me.
"Okay, let's go." I say. We head back to Beast's room. Mal knocks on the door.
"Mal? What's wrong?" He asks. She looks at him.
"Rain or shine, sun or snow, tell the truth, tell us what you know." She says.
"Who is my mother?" I ask. Beast looks at me.
"I swore never to tell. And Mal you should know better. I'm impervious to your magic." He says. He closes the door.
"Dang it!" I say.
"How else do we figure this out?" Mal asks. We meet up with everyone in the gardens. All is silent for a while. Suddenly Uma pipes up.
"I think I got it!" She says aloud.
"What Uma?" I ask.
"Tinkerbell!" She says.
"No one knows where she is Uma." Mal points out.
"The twins might." Uma says grinning.
"Tonka and Twinkle?" Evie asks.
"They ARE technically your fairies." Uma says to me.
"But I haven't seen them in years." I say.
"Well, here they come." Mal says. Twinkle sports long platinum blonde hair with green tips. Her twin brother, Tonka, has lime green hair and brown eyes. Twinkle spots us and comes over.
"Long time no see Pandora. Love the hair." She says. Tonka follows suit.
"Hello beautiful." He says to Evie. She rolls her eyes.
"Twinkle, Tonka, where's your mother?" I ask. Twinkle turns pale.
"Why do you care?" She asks.
"We need to talk to her." I say.
"Twinkle we have to do as Pandora wishes remember?" Tonka says.
"Fine. Come on." Twinkle says. She floats in front of us. We walk through town following Twinkle and Tonka. We come up on a small building outside the town.
"Here we are." Tonka says. Twinkle opens the door.
"Mom we have guests!" She shouts.
"Guests?! What have you two done?!" A middle age woman with fading blonde hair flutters in.
"Pandora. I should've known." She says.
"Tinkerbell. We need to know who my mom is." I say.
"Well I have a hard time remembering those days, but she was something else. Kind of annoying actually. One of those girls with a temper." Tinkerbell sits down.
"Well who was she?" Uma asks. Tinkerbell looks at her.
"She was...well, a nobody." Tinkerbell said.
"A nobody?" Uma almost yells.
"My mom?" I ask.
"Yeah. She was really stubborn, never told me her name. She wasn't well known or anything." Tinkerbell says. Uma stares at me in concern.
"We should go." I say. Tinkerbell waves us out the door. When we get back to Auradon Prep we all sit down at a table in the gardens.
"Your mother was a normal person." Uma says.
"Uma she wants nothing to do with me." I say.
"Oh right..."she frowns.
"We need to talk to her." Gil says.
"I'll search online for her." Jane says. We eat our dinner silently and Jane looks through her phone. I look at Gil, then at Harry. Harry looks back at me with a reassuring look. Gil doesn't seem to notice.
"Aha!" Jane says finally.
"What?" Mal asks.
"I found something about a woman rescued from the water." Jane says.
"Well?" Uma says. Jane looks at her phone for a minute.
"Hold on guys..." She says with a frown.
"What's wrong Jane?" Mal asks.
"There's an obituary here..." She says.
"A what?" I ask.
"An obituary is something someone writes about a person who recently died." Jay says. He flickers his eyes at Mal.
"Wait..." I say.
"Panda, your mother died several years ago. I guess the water in the ocean near the isle made her sick and she died shortly after she warned Beast of the prophecy." Jane says as her eyes scan the phone.
"So I've been an orphan all this time?" I say.
"Well you can have a better life here." Mal says.
"Yeah come on there's a tourney game soon. Let's go watch!" Evie says. We all head towards the field. Jay and Carlos head to the locker room. Gil is already dressed so he stays outside. We take our seats in the stands. The players come out and everyone cheers. Auradon Prep wins the game and we all run into the field to celebrate. Ben smiles at Uma. She blushes. Gil hoists me onto his back and we have a small celebration on the field. Harry and Jay walk towards the gardens ahead of us. They appear to be having an argument.
"I can't believe you're just sitting there letting Pandora be with someone else. It's obvious you have feelings for her." Jay says.
"Oh you mean like your doing with Mal?" Harry snaps back.
"that's different." Jay says as his voice falters.
"You keep telling yourself that Jay." Harry says rejoining the group. Audrey and Jane ask for our attention.
"Oh we almost forgot! Cotillion is this Friday. It's the biggest party in Auradon! Get your dresses and get your dates! It's gonna be great." Audrey says.
"This is exciting!" Uma says. Mal gets a funny look on her face.
"What's wrong M?" Evie asks.
"Ben and I had a fight and I think we broke up." Mal responds.
"I'm so sorry M." Evie says hugging her. Jay looks at Mal for a moment and then walks away briskly. Carlos follows him. I turn and notice Gil is on his knees with his tourney jacket.
"Go with me to Cotillion?" He asks smiling.
"Of course!" I say smiling. He wraps me in his jacket and hugs me. Harry looks at me and says nothing. He simply nods. Uma and I walk back to the room. She sits on my bed.
"I have something to tell you." She says smiling.
"What's up Uma?" I ask.
"I feel bad saying this...but I hope Ben asks me to Cotillion. I really like him." She says.
"Aww. Well maybe he will. Just be sure Mal is okay with it." I say.
"Yeah of course." Uma says. A knock on the door startles both of us.
"Come in." I say. Evie walks in.
"Hey Evie what's up?" I ask.
"Come down to the common area. Now." She says. We follow her down the stairs. Everyone is sitting on the couches. Everyone is smiling. Ben comes out with a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates.
"Uma, will you be my princess and go with me to cotillion?" He asks handing her the flowers and the sweets.
"Of course Ben! Mal, are you okay with this?" She asks.
"Yeah sure." She smiles halfheartedly. The night ends happily. I crawl onto the roof to watch the stars. I notice Harry is there as well.
"Hey Hooky." I say.
"Hey Panda. You come out to think and stargaze too?" He asks.
"Yeah. Everything is going well here, but something doesn't feel right." I say scooting next to him.
"Yeah I understand. Feels that way to me too. And I was thinking. We should go look for your dad." He says.
"How?" I ask.
"We take a ship. Travel until we find him." Harry says.
"You'd do that for me?" I ask.
"I'd do anything for you. And hey, we should come out here every night." He says.
"It's a deal." I say. As I head back inside I feel an ominous breeze fall over me. Something is very wrong.
