Eight: Influence of the Isle

I wake up in our dorm room in my bed. Uma is asleep in her bed.
"Maybe it was all a bad dream," I say to myself. Uma wakes up and jolts upright.
"Where's Ben? What happened?" Uma asks.
"Nope you saw it too. Wasn't a dream," I say.
"What do we do?" She asks. I look out the window. The cloud is gone. Everything appears normal.
"Maybe we're just overthinking what we saw," I say.
"Yeah you're right," Uma says. We get up and go to breakfast. When we get there we only see Mal and Celia sitting there. Something is off.
"Hey guys, where is everyone?" I ask.
"I don't know," Mal says. Suddenly we hear shouting.
"No! I don't want to date a loser anymore. I'm entitled to better! I'm a fairy!" Jane shouts at Carlos. Carlos comes over.
"Something's wrong. People are acting insane today." He says rubbing his temples.
"What do you mean?" Mal asks.
"Jane never acts like this. She's acting...mean. And she's not the only one. Tonka and Twinkle were going at it too. And Dizzy won't talk to Chad. Evie and Doug both went berserk at each other and at Audrey who in turn punched Doug. Jay won't stop crying, and Gil is punching a tree." Carlos explains.
"What's going on today?" Celia asks.
"And their eyes were all bright red!" Carlos says. Uma and I exchange a look of worry.
"What?" Mal asks.
"Last night we went to talk to Ben and the same thing happened to him, and his eyes turned red but it wasn't his voice anymore," Uma says.
"What do you mean?" Mal asks.
"It was almost like he was fighting something inside him. And the voice....it was my dad's," I say.
"WHAT?!" Carlos stammers.
"But how?" Mal asks. I think for a moment.
"The prophecy!" I say.
"The prophecy? How?" Uma asks.
"The actions of one shall plant the seed of another," I say.
"What are you talking about?" Mal asks.
"What if when my dad was exiled, he left a piece of himself behind? Like some of his magic," I say.
"And that magic somehow attached to Ben?" Mal asks.
"Exactly," a voice from behind us.
"Beast? You knew?" I ask. He nods.
"When we sent Peter to the isle, he forced Tinkerbell to take some of the magic off of him and implant it in the next king of Auradon. He wanted to make sure he had a way back if his life was lost. My son has had that magic inside of him his whole life. We don't know how to get rid of it," Beast says.
"I might...." I say.
"What do you mean?" Carlos asks.
"Only the one who possesses a spark can light the darkness and lay to rest the fallen. My dad cursed me with the immortality spell. Pixiedust surrounds me. Maybe I'm supposed to fix this," I say.
"Then what's making everyone act psycho?" Celia asks.
"They're being influenced by Peter. He's spreading the darkness that he implanted in Ben," Mal says.
"Then why aren't we being effected?" Uma asks.
"Because good is more powerful, and we're more powerful together. Peter can't penetrate our magic," Mal says. 
"We just have one problem," I say.
"What?" Uma asks looking concerned.
"The pixiedust isn't showing itself," I say.
"What do we do?" Carlos asks.
"Beast do you know anything about this?" Mal asks.
"Well, pixiedust used for curses only becomes visible in the presence of the person who can break the spell," he says.
"Harry!" Uma and I say at the same time.
"But he's gone..." I say.
"No.....he's not. I know where he is," Gil walks up to us.
"Gil I thought you went berserk. You were punching a tree," Carlos says.
"I was doing that because I felt guilty, Panda I've been hiding something from you," he says.
"Gil what are you talking about?" I ask.
"This," he says handing me an envelope. I open it. The letter is crinkled but I can still read it.
"Dear Panda,
I got you back to Auradon. I told Ben the magic was coming from me, not you. He said if I agreed to stay on the isle, he would let you guys go back. I'm staying back at the treehouse. It has such fond memories. Maybe this is for the best. I could never measure up to Gil, and when it came down to it, I broke my promise. I'm sorry. You deserve better. Your Hooky." It says. I start to cry.
"Why would you keep this from me Gil? All this time I could've gone back for him!" I scream.
"I was jealous! I wanted you back! You chose him over me when he hadn't so much as smiled in 9 years! I was angry!" Gil says as tears fill his eyes.
"He stopped smiling because of you! He stopped speaking because YOU abandoned him! YOU chose me over him!! Now you know how he's felt for 9 years!  You never even tried to talk to him! All he wanted was for you to say you're sorry! But your pride prevented that. I guess you get that from your dad," I scream. I run off towards the beach. Uma, Carlos, and Mal follow. I get onto the motorcycle Mal gave me when I first came to Auradon.
"I'm going to find Harry, but I need to go alone," I say sobbing.
"We know. We're supporting you." Mal says.
"Go bring that pirate home," Uma says.
"Be safe. We love you," Carlos says. I nod.
"Noble steed, proud and fair, you shall take me anywhere," I say. I fly back to the isle. I walk back to the treehouse. I see Harry sitting outside where we always do.
"I choose you," I say. He turns to face me.
"Harry I will always choose you. No, you are not Gil, you understand me in a way he never could. You make me stronger. Being around you is my favorite thing. Sure I make mistakes and I have flaws but you love me anyway. I couldn't ask for anyone better because there is no one better. I love you. I will always love you. How could you think Gil is better than you? It's always been you Harry. Always," I say starting to cry. He stands and walks up to me. He takes my hands in his.
"I love you too. I always have. I love everything about you. I'm sorry I left. I shouldn't have," he says. I hug him tight.
"You're my favorite person Hooky," I say.
"And you're mine," he smiles.
"We need help. Something is very wrong," I say.
"What are you talking about?" He asks.
"My dad implanted some of his magic in Ben, and it's spreading," I say.
"What can I do?" He asks.
"My pixiedust only works when your around. I think it's the prophecy. I need you to help me stop this," I say.
"Then let's go," he says. We get on the boat and head back to Auradon. Mal and Uma greet us at the beach.
"What do we do?" Uma asks.
"We should try to help our friends before we get to Ben. We're stronger together and we have to make sure this works," I say. Harry takes my hand.
"Let's go," Mal says gesturing towards campus. We walk towards campus and the tourney field. Jay is sitting on the grass crying.
"Jay? What's wrong?" I ask. He looks up and his eyes are bright red.
"Mal chose Ben. I'm gonna kill him, then she'll have to choose me," he says getting angry. He twitches slightly like Ben did.
"H-help me," he whimpers. I take his hand and close my eyes. Harry stands next to me.
"Stop the curse, light the dark, find the good inside your heart," I say. I feel warmth around me.  I open my eyes and see the pixiedust touching Jay. His eyes return to normal.
"What happened? Why are my eyes puffy?" He asks.
"My dad did this. He put magic inside Ben," I say. He nods. Celia runs towards us.
"Help!" She shouts.
"Celia what's wrong?" I ask.
"D-Dizzy!" She says. She hides behind Jay. Dizzy appears holding her scissors. Her eyes are the same red we've been seeing. I walk up to her and do the same thing to her as I did to Jay.
"My head hurts," she says. We walk through the gardens and back towards the main building. Gil is standing at the lockers with Carlos and Chad.
"Hey where is everyone else?" I ask Carlos.
"I think Tonka and Twinkle are by the fields. Evie is in her room. I locked Doug in the science lab, and I think Jane and Audrey are in the library," he says. We go into the room where Doug was locked. I do my thing and we head to Evie's room.
"Hey E," Mal says. Evie turns around and storms Mal. I grab her wrist and say the spell. After finding Jane in the library we run into Audrey in the hall.
"My magic won't work on her," I say.
"Why not?" Evie asks.
"Because she has the magic of 3 fairies protecting her," I say. Chad looks at me. He walks up to audrey and kisses her. Immediately her eyes go back to normal.
"Hey there," she says to him.
"That works too," I say. We head outside to find the twins. I find Twinkle and fix her first. Tonka appears and I say the spell. It has no effect.
"What's going on?" I ask. Harry looks at me.
"You're tired. You need to rest," he says.
"But Tonka-"
"Tonka will be fine. You need to save your magic for Ben," Harry says. Dizzy looks at him.
"If it worked for Audrey, maybe..." she says. She walks up to him and kisses him. His eyes return to normal. He looks at her and kisses her again.
"Hey Dizz," he says. She hugs him.
"Hey Tonky," she says.
"Aww!" Evie and Jane say at the same time.
"Let's go get Ben," Harry says. I nod. We walk upstairs to his office.
"Ben?" Uma calls. He opens the door.
"What is he doing here? He promised," Ben says of Harry.
"Ben it wasn't him that you saw, it was me. My dad gave me the immortality curse," I say.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have assumed," he says. He twitches again. His eyes turn red again.
"How perceptive my dear," the voice echoes.
"Hi dad," I say.
"I see you've figured out how to save your pathetic friends," he says.
"They aren't pathetic. You are," I say.
"After how those imbeciles treated us, and you still defend them. How sad. I pity you my dear," he says.
"Why did you do this dad?" I ask.
"So I could finish what I started," he says.
"I won't let you," I say. I grab Ben's hand.
"Stop the curse, light the dark, find the good inside your heart," I say. I repeat it and feel the light around us.
"No! You've ruined my plans! You are no daughter of mine!" Peter cries. Ben collapses to the floor. Everything quiets down.
"He's gone," I say.
"You did it Panda," Harry says. He scoops me up and hugs me as tight as he can.
"It's finally over, and the prophecy was fulfilled," Jane says. We all embrace each other.
"Ben?" Uma asks. He opens his eyes.
"What happened?" He asks.
"My dad possessed you," I say.
"I'm so sorry Pandora. I was under his influence. I never meant to be so horrible to you," he says sitting up.
"It's okay, you're back to your old self now," I say. He gives me a hug.
"Thank you," he says. He looks at Mal.
"I understand why you left me, I hope you forgive me," he says.
"I do, but I love Jay," Mal says.
"You do?" Jay asks.
"I do," Mal says. Ben looks at Uma.
"It's you I like. Can I take you on a date?" He asks. I nod at her.
"Yes, if that's okay Mal?" She says.
"Of course," Mal says. Uma hugs Ben. Harry hugs me tight.
"Hey, would you maybe wanna go to the enchanted lake together sometime?" Gil asks Twinkle.
"Yeah, I'd like that," she smiles. Suddenly everything goes black.
