*still flashback*

"Hey honey how do feel about joining our family," the kind lady asks me.

"You can be my sister!" Her daughter yells and hugs me. Even though she was a year older than me she acted like a kid. I befriended her quickly, more like she befriended me quickly.

"Am I allowed around the house?" I ask the woman.

"Yes of course why wouldn't you be?" The man asks as he takes a seat on the small chair.

"My dad didn't allow me out the basement," I say innocently. The woman and man exchange looks.

"Well I'm your dad now and I allow you anywhere," the man chuckles and pulls me into his lap.

"And I'll be your mom," the woman says.

"I have a sister!" Kristen yells. I smile at all of them. Finally someone family worthy.

*mini Timeskip*
"Dad what do you work as?" I ask.

"He works for really big people," Kristen says.

"Yes I do honey," he says and take a bite of his dinner. Right now we were all eating at the dining table.

"And mom plans birthday parties," Kristen says.

"Have you ever had a birthday party darling?" Mom asks. I shake my head and take a bite of my food.

"Well when is your birthday?" Kristen asks.

"It was 3 days ago," I say with a smile.

"But didn't your house burn down 3 days ago?" She asks.

"Kristen eat your dinner," Dad says seriously.

"It's fine I have a better family now," I say with a smile.

"And we have a better daughter now," Dad says with a wink. Kristen gasps and Mom bursts out laughing.

"I'm joking peanut," He says and laughs. I laugh a bit as well. I think I'll like it here.

"I'm done, can I play with the new toy you brought?" Kristen asks.

"What toy?" Mom asks.

"They're called nunchucks," Kristen says.

"You got her nunchucks?!" She asks seriously.

"She wanted them," Dad shrugs.

"You know how dangerous they are?" Mom asks.

"Don't worry they're padded and plastic," Dad shrugs. Mom rolls her eyes and looks at me.

"Do you want a safe toy?" She asks.

"I'm fine," I shrug and leave the table with my plate, putting it in the sink.

"Let's play (y/n)," Kristen says and pulls my hand to her room. I walk into the room and watch her start trying the nunchucks.

"What's this?" I ask, picking up a ragged doll.

"Oh that was my old doll. It used to talk but it broke so I got a new one," Kristen says as she practices. I sit down and turn it around. The place with the batteries was a bit torn, revealing wires, I open a bit more and fiddle around.

"What are you doing?" Kristen asks after a bit.

"Looking at your doll," I mumble as I focus.

"Do you have batteries?" I ask.

"They're downstairs in the drawer by the stove," she says. I get up and run to get them.

"What are you doing (y/n)?" Mom asks.

"Can I have batteries?" I ask.

"What for?" She asks.

"I'm trying something," I say. She opens the drawer and hands me three. Perfect. I run back up; placing the batteries in.

"Can I have tape?" I ask.

"Here," She says and hands me a roll of tape. I break off pieces and tape over the batteries so the don't fall.

"It won't work, stupid thing is broken," Kristen sighs and flops next to me. I turn it on and wait.

"Hello!" The toy begins to say.

"You fixed it!" She screams and takes it.

"How are you?...I'm fine!" the toy continues speaking.

"Thank youuuu," Kristen says and hugs me hard.

"You're welcome," I say with a laugh.

"What's wrong?!" Dad yells as he runs in, Mom following him.

"Dad, mom look! (Y/n) fixed Dolly!" Kristen squeals.

"Wow (y/n) how did you do that?" Dad asks.

"Some of the wires were out so I put it back in," I shrug.

"Well aren't you a tiny little engineer," Mom chuckles and kneels down to my level. I smile at them. I never want to leave this place.
