Chapter 28: Damn you Mary Poppins
I searched around the whole house just in case Cara was around somewhere but to no avail it appeared she did in fact sneak out – the little shit. Calm yourself Adrian.
Okay, so if I call my brothers and let them know their 13 year old sister decided she wanted to be rebellious and jump out of the fucking window at 8 at night, then I’m sure they would be quick to call the cops and then the cops will call our parents – speaking of which I haven’t heard from them in ages. There’s probably no reception on the boat anyways. I made a mental note to try ring them later on to see if they’re okay. I ran a hand down my face in frustration as I walked down the stairs. Ok Adrian just give her an hour or so to see if she comes back, she’ll probably get hungry or scared and come home soon. I hope.
I walked into the lounge room and sat down on the couch. I might as well watch some TV to pass the time and get my mind off my rebellious sister. I switched on the TV and Geordie Shore was on. Deciding I was happy with watching Charlotte trash the house out of jealousy while being blind drunk because Gary is being his usual man whore self by pulling a blonde bimbo, I snuggled further into the couch.
A pounding on the front door startled me. I sat up with a fright and looked around my surroundings and realised I must’ve fallen asleep on the couch while I was watching TV. The house was eerily quiet and the only noise that was heard was the constant pounding on the front door. It grew louder and louder with each knock. I frowned and picked up my phone from the coffee table. Shit it was 11:30. Who would be knocking at this hour? Surely if it was Belle or the boys they would just use their keys? Or maybe Belle forgot her keys when she rushed out earlier. Crap. Suddenly feeling guilty that I let my pregnant best friend stand outside in the rain while I was in dreamland, I shot up from the couch and made my way to the door.
Without checking through the peephole to see who it was – because I already guessed it was Belle, I opened the door and was surprised to find no one on the other side. My eye brows furrowed and I looked around my front porch. There was no one in sight, what the hell? The sky was pitch black and you could barely see the moon as the dark clouds covered it slightly while rain poured down from the skies.
I shivered as the air hit my face. Was I hallucinating? I swear there was someone pounding their fist onto the door just seconds ago.
I closed the door and locked it up. I headed back into the lounge room and checked my phone again. Where is Belle? And shit, Cara! Where the hell is she? With my phone in my hand I headed for the stairs just in case either of them was sleeping and I didn’t hear them come in. Once I was upstairs, I searched through the rooms and came up empty. No Belle or Cara. I didn’t bother looking for the boys because I didn’t expect them to be home so early especially if they’re all out together.
As I was heading back down the stairs the doorbell rang this time instead of pounding. I stopped mid step and waited to see if I would hear it again.
Ding-dong
There it is again – okay I was definitely not hallucinating this time, it was definitely the doorbell. I quickened my pace down the stairs and made my way to the door again. This time I looked through the peep-hole and frowned when I saw there was no one there again.
Is this some kind of joke?
I opened the door just to make sure and was hit in the face with a cold splash of rain and sharp wind. I huffed angrily and wiped the damp hair from my face and looked around to see if anyone was here. I narrowed my eyes when I thought of the stupid kids who are most likely getting their kicks out of this. I slammed the door shut making it echo through the silent house.
