(LUCY'S POV)
"BABY?!?"
I rushed towards him and gently took the basket from his hands, placing it on my bed. I looked up at Natsu as he did the same. My hands slowly reached for the piece of cloth that was covering the top from the rain. I gulped as I saw small fingers on the side of the basket. On removing the cloth, we saw a little baby girl peacefully sleeping, wearing a white dress. She looked like she was 3 months old.
"N-Natsu..."
"I know... me too."
We both instantly knew what the other was thinking.
WHAT DO WE DO NOW?!?!?
I sat down on the bed, next to the basket and rubbed my temple. He followed and sat next to me. We both sat in silence, not knowing what to say.
"What's that?" Happy broke the silence by pointing at something.
We both turned our gazes towards that direction to see a small note next to the baby. I looked at Natsu as he nodded his head. I picked up the note to take a look at what it had to say.
Dear Whoever,
I am deeply sorry to whoever's doorstep this note is found. Due to some harsh circumstances, I am forced to abandon my daughter. She will be in grave danger with me. My only option is to give her away to safe hands, where she could possibly live a happy life. I apologize for burdening you like this, with this great responsibility. But please, take care of her. Treat her like your own and give her a better life, the kind I couldn't give her.
Thank you
- M
My eyes almost watered, reading aloud a note that held so much pain. On a closer look, there were a few essential items present in the basket as well, like baby food, milk, diapers and a few toys that probably belonged to her.
Natsu, who had listened to the entire note, kept his hand on my shoulder. "So, what do you want to do now?"
My mind was running wild with possible outcomes. I thought of almost each and everything I could do to help her. I almost felt like Doctor Strange for a moment there. But even after all that thinking, I came back to only one suitable solution.
I took in a deep breath and looked up to him, "I'm going to take her in."
His eyes nearly popped out. "Lucy, are you sure? Taking the responsibility of a child is going to be really hard on an 18-year-old."
"Natsu, I could almost hear her pain in the letter. She's desperate to provide a good life for her daughter. And I think if I go on a few extra jobs, I can give her that life."
His eyes that once held worry had become soft and were looking down at me with a smile. I guess my words really touched him.
There was a long pause until he finally spoke. "Then I'll help you raise this baby." My pupils widened, reflecting shock. I almost couldn't believe my ears.
"B-But Nat-"
"Isn't that what friends do? They support you during hard times." He gave off a warm smile with Happy following him.
"Aye Sir!"
I gently smiled at both of them, feeling blessed to have them with me, "thank you so much you guys but that's not exactly the problem here..."
"Then what is?" They both asked in sync.
"Well... I'm not sure if I can give you the responsibility of a child, you both are a little... unpredictable I guess," with every word I spoke, my voice was slowly decreasing.
