Everything around you was still dark when you made your way back to base. The moon was beginning to fall behind the horizon, and the sun was just creeping out of the east. As you made your way to the building, you were relieved to see that no one appeared to be awake yet. You slowly descended onto the roof, your wings making one final swoop before your feet touched the ground. With a sigh, you sat down and let your feet sway below the overhang as you watched the slow progress on the horizon. You were about to stand up when you heard the sound of footsteps behind you. The faint smell of fresh lemon and lavender gave away their identity.
"I didn't realize you were a morning person," you remarked.
"I'm not." He replied. "What I am is concerned that Erwin won't be very forgiving." You stood up and turned to face him.
"What do you mean?" You asked,
"I saw you flying back here a few minutes ago. After what his last orders were, you better hope he didn't see you too." You sighed.
"There's nothing he can do about it now."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that. Where exactly did you go?" He questioned. You shook your head.
"I went to Trost." He raised an eyebrow.
"Do you have any idea how far that is?"
"Apparently not very. I managed to go further and back in decent time." You muttered.
"What?" You stayed silent. "(Y/N), how far did you really go?"
"Wall Maria." You stated lowly. For a moment Levi just stared at you, speechless.
"You mean to tell me that you made it all the way to Wall Maria and back in one night?" He finally asked. You nodded. "Meeting in Erwin's office in an hour."
After your brief conversation with the Corporal, you quickly showered and changed into your uniform. You pulled your hair into a quick braid and briefly assured that your appearance was satisfactory before heading towards Erwin's office. When you walked in, you were surprised to see Hanji sitting in on the debriefing between Levi and Erwin. Once Hanji saw you she immediately stopped talking, stood up and pointed to you.
"Glad you're finally here," she said before turning back to her superiors. "Now, as I was saying, if she really managed to make it all the way to wall Maria, then we might be able to utilize that ability. Now, if you don't mind, (Y/N), showing me one of your wings again?" The scientist looked at you with a dangerous edge. It reminded you of when you first showed her your wings. Regardless of your reluctance to do so, you eventually extended your left wing. Hanji immediately started touching it, her hands tracing what was most likely the bone structure along the inner-side of the appendage. Glancing over at Levi, it seemed he was almost as uncomfortable as you were.
"Hanji haven't you manhandled (Y/N) enough?" He questioned.
"Hmm, it's not quite as I imagined..." Hanji stated, completely ignoring Levi's comment. She walked around you and started tracing the bone all the way to your back. "Would you mind removing your jacket?" She asked. You sighed and did as she requested. The minute it was off, she began poking at the back of your ribcage. Swiftly, almost if reflexively, your wing covered you.
