A couple of minutes later we were all sitting at a big booth in a chrome diner. Familes surrounded us, making me feel so... out of place. Well, we all were. Three pre-teen demi-gods and a satyr? We were pretty out of place as it was. We all mumble about things, mostly about the quest, when the waitress arrived. She raised her eyebrow at us skeptically, her eyes darting to each of us then they close completely. "Well?" she asked, opening them again.
"We, um, want to order dinner."Percy said, biting at his lip a bit."You kids have the money to pay for it?" she asks. I bit down on my lip as well, then look at the others. Grover's lower lip was quivering a bit, and Annabeth looked a bit of the frail side. Heck, we were all probably feeling a bit frail from lack of food.I tap my foot against the floor anxiously as I try to come up with a good sob story. Would circus runaways work in this situation? Not likely.
"Uh-" I let out, but then a loud rumble shook the whole building. I look outside. A huge motorcyce pulls up to the curb. Its bright red headlights obstructing my line of vision, but from what I can make out, it was a pretty sweet ride. The gas tank had flames painted onto it. A shotgun holster was mounted on either side, complete with the shotguns themselves. The seat was made out of a weird color of leather-- kind of like a peach color... or maybe the color of Caucasian skin? I shivered at the thought.
But the guy on the bike is what intrigued me. He was wearing a red muscle shirt and black jeans. He supported a hunting knife, which was strapped to his right thigh. The red shades he wore were wraparound, and his face... It looked familiar. Brutal, cruel, might be considered handsome, but... vaugely familiar. His black hair looked oily, and his sort of plump cheeks were scarred from what were probably previous fights. I wanted to turn to Annabeth to ask if she had the same feeling that I did, but my voice hitched in my throat, making it impossible to talk.
Hot, dry wind whirrled around the diner as he walked in. Everybody else in the diner rose as if he were a saint or the Pope, but with a more hypnotic glaze in their eyes. With the wave of his hand, they were all seated again, returning to their previous conversations. The waitress in front of us blinked like somebody pressed play. She then asked again,"You kids have any money to pay for it?" I bit at my lip again."It's on me." A rough voice said. As I looked up, I saw that it was the biker who had just walked in.
He slid into our booth, which was now over crowded. He sat on me and Annabeth's side, making her just about plaster herself against the window. I was squashed inbetween, and I was feeling a bit fuzzy for some reason. He looked up at he waitress."Are you still here?" he asked her. He then pointed at her, making her stiffen up. She turned as if she had been spun around, and then marched herself back to where the kitchen was. Then the biker turned and looked at me.
I resisted the urge to glare back as I bit my tongue. Many emotions boiled inside of me-- some of them so foriegn that I almost didn't recognize them. But now I did; anger, bitterness, resentment. But my body wanted to act these things out. My anger towards Percy exploded, making me want to leap across the table and punch him. I wanted to hit a wall so hard that my knuckle broke. Hades, I wanted to pick a fight with this strange god looking at me. Wait-- did I think god? It sudden struck my as to why I had recognized him. Ares, god of war, wore he same snark expression as all of his kids from camp.
When his gaze turned to Percy, I had finally figured out who he was. How could I be so stupid? I was Athena's granddaughter, after all. Maybe smartness skipped a generation? Probably explained why I did all the stupid stuff that I've done. "So you're old Seaweed's kis, huh?" Ares asked, giving Percy a grin."What's it to you?" Percy asked harshly, his normal serene green eyes flaring in anger. My mouth feel agape, and then I closed it."Percy, this is--" me and Annabeth said at the same time, but was cut off short.
"S'okay,"Ares commented."I don't mind a little attitude. Long as you remember who's the boss. You know who I am, little cousin?" Percy's eyes widened a bit, but then went back down to their original size. "You're Clarisse's dad."he blankly."Ares, god of war." Ares grinned proudly and took his shades off. Since he was staring dead at Percy, I didn't have the chance to see his eyes."That's right, punk. I heard you broke Clarisse's spear."
"She was asking for it,"I mumbled, narrowing my eyes at he table. Out of the corner of my eyes I saw Annabeth and Grover giving me a frightful look, but I heard Ares chuckle. "Probably," he said, looking from Percy to me. This is when I saw his eyes. They were like fire-- hot and wild, but get to close and you'll burn.He then turned his gaze back to Percy." I don't fight my kids' fights, you know? What I'm here for-- I heard you were in town. I got a little proposition for you."
The waitress came back with trays of hot food-- cheeseburgers, fries, onion rings, and chocolate shakes. My eyes widened at the sight of them and my mouth watered a bit, but I turned my head. Annabeth gave me a weary look but I averted my gaze from her and back to Ares. He handed her a few gold drachmas. She fingered the coins nervously, looking from them and back to Ares."But, these aren't..."Being the man-- god that he is, he pulled out a knife and started to sharpen his fingernails.
"Problem, sweetheart?" He asked her. The waitress shook her head and swallowed, then turned around and left with the gold."You can't do that," Percy told Ares."You can't just threaten people with a knife." This seemed to be funny, because Ares laughed."Are you kidding? I love this country. Best place since Sparta. Don't you carry a weapon, punk? You should. Dangerous world out there. Which brings me to my propposition. I need you to do me a favor."
"What kind of a favor would he do for a god?" I ask out of curiousity."Something that a god doesn't have time to do himself." Ares answered, glaring at me a bit. This struck a nerve, but I bit back my tongue. He turned back to Percy."It's nothing much. I left my cheild at an abandoned water park here in town. I was going on a little... date with my girlfriend. We were interrupted. I left my shield behind. I want you to fetch it for me." Percy huffed a bit."Why don't you go back and get it yourself?"
"Why don't I turn you into a prairie dog and run you over with my Harley? Because I don't feel like it. A god is giving you an opportunity to prove yourself, Percy Jackson. Will you prove yourself a coward?" He then leaned forward."Or maybe you only fight when there's a river to dive into, so your daddy can protect you." Percy's eyes flared with anger again. I could feel the anger radiating off of everything around me; mostly Ares, but Percy was generating a lot himself.
"We're not interested,"Percy said."We've already got a quest." I nod lightly, but nobody noticed."I know all about your quest, punk. When that item was first stole, Zeus sent his best out looking for it: Apollo, Athena, Artemis, and me, naturally. If I couldn't sniff out a weapon that powerful..."he then licked his lips greedily, as if the thought of the master bolt made him lust for it."Well... if I couldn't find it, you got no hope. Your dad and I go way back. After all, I'm the one who told him my suspicions about old Corpse Breath."
"You told him that Hades stole the bolt?" Percy asked."Sure. Framing somebody to start a war. oldest trick in the book. I recognized it immediately. In a way, you got me to thank for your little quest." Ares said, a bit too proudly for my liking."Thanks,"Percy grumbled sarcastically."Hey, I'm a generous guy. Just go my little job, and I'll help you on your way. I'll arrange a ride west for you and your friends."Percy didn't even flinch. "We're doing fine on our own."
"Yeah, right. No money. No wheels. No clue what you're up against. Help me out, and maybe I'll tell you something you need to know. Something about your mom."

I promise I'll do longer chapters soon.... really. And I'll try to stop with the cliffhangers T-T
