The smell of freshly baked pie in the morning makes me go back to the time where everything's so perfect I couldn't ask for more. Laughter and smiles surrounded the house as if bad things won't happen. We were living a life everyone would asked for but everything changed that night.

I was in my room doing my homework when I heard crashes downstairs. At first, I thought something just fell and broke but when the crashes continued, I decided to take a look. As I was closing the gap between me and the stairs, I started hearing people talking.

"Make sure to check up on those drawers. It'll be better if we could take everything we can." It's a mess down there. I saw two men searching all around downstairs. Good thing my parents aren't here but still I need to hide 'til they leave the house. I'm trying to remain calm as much as possible, it's what my dad told me. I maybe young but I don't think like a kid, I'm different.

After a minute or two, I slowly walked back and return to my room. "I gotta hide." There's nowhere to hide inside my room except for the old wooden closet my grandfather gave me. I immediately went inside and closed it firmly.

The crashes stop. I don't know what's happening down there. I think they're gone 'cause it became quiet all of a sudden. I slowly opened the closet where I was hiding and peeked. It was dark but I can still see. I was about to go out of the closet when suddenly I heard heavy footsteps outside my room and that made me go back in again. My heart started beating so fast it almost feels like it's gonna come out of my chest.

The door in my room opened. I don't know what they're doing outside. All I can hear are sounds, they're probably searching around. I can't risk my life and take a peek, that's suicide.

"Nothing valuable is here man."

"Look harder. There's probably something in here." That's the same voice I heard earlier.

"I think there really is nothing here. This is a kid's room, probably a seven or an eight year old kid. We should go ahead and go to the parents room, what 'ya think?" That's right, go ahead and leave my room.

"No. We don't wanna miss a thing, do we?" This guy's killing me. "We could take this kid's gadgets and sell them, okay? So quit yappin' and keep looking."

They were quiet for a while but they're still in my room, I can say that they are since I can still hear noises.

"Come on bro. Let's go search the other rooms. I got all his gadgets, nothing's left in here."

"Wait-- we haven't checked that closet yet."

My heart beats even faster when he said that. I can feel that they're closing in. The footsteps stopped and the closet started opening slowly.

"No, no."

"Yow bro! Check this out." The closet stopped opening.

"What?" Now, it seems he's walking back to his partner. "I told you there's something valuable in here."

"Yeah. Who would have thought that a kid have something like this hidden in the shelves." No, not that!

"Get your hands off that watch!" That watch is a memento of my grandfather before he died and I promise that I'd take care of it.

"Hey, hey, hey. So there's someone here all along eh." Shoot! I let my anger control me. Now, I'm completely exposed and helpless at the same time.

"If you hadn't gone out of that closet, we wouldn't have knew and you would have been safe until we leave but--"

CLICK!

"How unlucky of you. You'll be dead right here this instant. Come here!"

"Waaah!" He came rushing towards me with a knife on his hand. I ran away from him and was about to aim for the door but the other guy's standing near it.
