I panicked and my foot slipped off the step from the ladder. I quickly tried to regain balance and I lost my shoe in the process. The shoe hit the person beneath me and caused them to slow down, allowing me to climb out the trapdoor and quickly run back to the mansion.
I threw open the door and slammed it shut behind me. Alfred quickly ran to the door. "Mistress, is everything alright?" I lent backwards on the wall, panting heavily.
"No... this really isn't good..." my face fell into my palms.
"I take it the search for Madeline didn't go so well?"
"It went horribly. I..." Ciel walked through the living room."Abbie? Is everything alright?" I felt vomit travel up my throat. Every time I look at him all I can hear is Alois's voice and all I can think of is that swaying lifeless corpse.
I glanced at Ciel once more, I felt my head aching and my vision going hazy. I needed to tell him. I needed to say something. With all my energy, the only thing I could manage to say was "Elizabeth Midford." I fell to the ground and lost consciousness.
The trapdoor led to an underground tunnel, the tunnel was deep and I couldn't make out the bottom.
I turned around and notice something blocking my vision. It seemed like a young girls legs and feet, which seemed a bit odd. I gasped, it hit me. I stepped back cautiously and saw her. The limp, lifeless, hanging body of a young, long blonde haired girl.
did I do this? Did she see me and Ciel together and got the wrong idea about us?
I heard the metal clatter of a person climbing the ladder underneath me. I looked down and thought I saw... Madeline?
My body jerked up, I screamed as my eyes were open wide. I saw Ciel sitting beside me, taken aback yet barely made a sound. "Abigail? Are you alright?"
"I can't I- I keep seeing it- I can't-" I could barely form a sentence. It felt as if it just happened again. I couldn't breathe steadily, my heart was pounding rapidly.
"Hey... don't worry," Ciel said softly, placing an arm around me. "Whatever you saw, it's over now." He smiled.
"Ciel..." my heart steadied as my eyes began to water.
"Why are you crying?"
"I saw her."
"Wait- you found Mad-"
"Elizabeth."He gasped as his face turned pale. "Lizzie?" He spoke under his breath.
"She... I..." my face fell into my palms once more. I had to say it, it's not going to stay away. I took a deep breath and turned to Ciel, letting the tears fall harshly down my face. "I saw Elizabeth Midford, hanging from the ceiling." I choked on the air.
Ciel moved his arm away from me, standing from his seat. He stared directly at me eerily as a shiver crept down my spine. I couldn't read him, was he angry? Upset? I hadn't a clue. "Are... you sure?" He asked me, his voice monotone and lifeless.
"I guess... I could be wrong?" I tried to think back once more, which was incredibly easy considering the look on that girl's face wouldn't escape my mind.
"You must bring me with you. Show me where you found her body." His voice was calm and collected, his expression was nothing other than brooding.
"Ciel, I don't believe that's a good idea-" I tried to explain, yet, he cut me off.
"Didn't you hear me?" He growled, his face without a single crinkle, yet his voice sounded nothing less than infuriated. "Take me to where you found her body." He grabbed the collar of my dress and heaved it upwards, his lifeless and dead eye staring down at me.
"Ciel. I managed to catch the attention of others who were down there, they're looking for me." I sighed, refraining from meeting his eye. "We could be killed."
He groaned, releasing me. "I can't believe this... it's been years!" He sighed, pacing the room.
"I'm... sorry, Ciel. I wish I could've done something sooner." I glanced to the ground in guilt, did I do this?
"No, no." He shook his head quickly, shaking away his grief. "You couldn't have done anything, don't worry too much about it." He calmed down, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"She was... quite the maiden, wasn't she?" I smiled, looking up at the roof. "Elizabeth Midford... she was... so gorgeous. I wish we could've been together more." I chuckled, the lightest pink crossing my cheek.
"I'm sure she would've loved you," he paused, brushing his hand against mine. "Just like I do..." he whispered.
I snapped back to reality, did he really say that? I felt a sinking in my stomach. "I... need to go to the bathroom, excuse me." I sighed, standing and patting down my skirt.
I practically fell into the bathroom and locked it shut. I groaned and leant against the wall.
"Yeesh, what a cheese-lord~!" A high pitched, feminine voice giggled.
I let out a squeal, there was no one else in the room, where could it be coming from? "...hello?" I asked quietly, hoping it wouldn't sound as though I was talking to myself.
I waited a few moments and didn't receive a response. I sighed and gazed into the mirror. "You're quite the maiden yourself, Abbie~!!" The voice giggled once more.
"Who... are you?" I asked huskily, trying not to call attention to myself from anyone surrounding me.
"Can't you tell?" It chuckled, behind me in the mirror, a blonde haired girl formed from thin air. "It's me~ Elizabeth Midford!"
My cheeks turned a bright pink. "Did you... hear what I said about you earlier?" I asked, turning around and leaning on the sink.
"Of course I did, cutie~!" She dances towards me, twirls a strand of my hair and winked at me. My face turned bright red. "Are you alright?" She smirked playfully, causing my face to become heated.
"Yes- I- er..." I rubbed the back of my neck, she was standing incredibly close to me.
"Do you think this is about Ciel? Don't worry~ there's not much I can do now~ hehe!" She smiled, playing with my hair. "I just wish... I could've seen you more... I mean, you're just adorable." She smiled sadly, her eyes watering.
"I don't love Ciel..." I muttered under my breath. "I... love you!" My eyes were streaming tears like a waterfall. "Why did you... when... why?!" I screamed, my voice echoing on the bathroom walls.
"Well, that's what I'm here to tell you." Elizabeth sighed. "I didn't exactly..."
"You mean- you're still alive!?" I bounced with glee, I hadn't seen her in many years and I'd been worried sick since.
She giggled, a light pink blush crossing her cheeks. "Yes~ I'll be at the town hall at midnight, meet me there- alone."
"But... what about Ciel?"
"I'm not in love with Ciel, I'm in love with you."
