Is It Love?

We sat on the edge of my bed, our hands intertwined. Both of our faces burning red.

"Abigail... this is so difficult..." she sighed, a tear rolling down her cheek. "I want to scream from the rooftops that you're mine. I want the whole world to know!"

"And yet... not even our servants may know." I choked on my tears. "Elizabeth... I love you." I lifted her hand and placed the back of her palm on my cheek.

"How long must we keep hiding?" She knelt her forehead on mine, tears streaming down her face. "I... can't keep lying like this..."

"I... don't know. I just know that, if a single soul found out. We'd be flocked every passing day. Why does it need to be like this?" I placed her hand on my heart. "My heart, it's only beating for you. I don't... I can't..."

She quickly cut me off, harshly kissing me on the lips. "I promise you, we'll keep trying." She smiled reassuringly, my face was bright red. I quickly threw my hands around her.

"That damned smile of yours~!" I giggled, crying into her shoulder.

She gently caressed my back, rubbing slowly in circles. "You're so cute, Abs. I love you." My grip on her tightened. "I... can't believe I actually said it, finally."

"Please... don't ever leave me, Liz." I pleaded, hugging her tightly.

"Never." She pulled me off of her as she kissed me on the cheek. "You're stuck with me forever." She winked, I blushed and pushed her back onto the bed, kissing her deeply.

This was the night before she disappeared.

I crept out of the mansion and quickly found my way to the town hall. A long, blonde haired girl stood facing towards it. It was her! "Elizabeth!" I called, running to her. I reached my hand out to hers to hold, I was euphoric until I heard a metal click and cold metal against my wrist. "...Lizzie?"

The girl quickly turned around, it wasn't Elizabeth and it wasn't even a girl. "I've got you now~!" He laughed maniacally.

"A... Al..." I felt shivers down my spine. "...Trancy?"

"You know it~!"

"You... you fiend!" I screamed, swaying my arm vigorously in attempts to free myself. "You treacherous bastard!"

"Stop fighting, girly~" he grabbed my arm tightly and smirked as he glared directly into my soul.

"Where's Elizabeth- tell me!" I heaved from distress and I stared him in the eyes, my pupils glaring with hate and anger.

"Why tell you when I can show you?" He smirked, pulling on the cuff around my hand. A girl had seemed to appear out of nowhere beside me, I turned to her as her dainty hands glistened with a white aura. A wave of translucent white overtook my vision as I lost consciousness.

As I awoke and my eyelids slowly parted, I quickly focussed my vision as my eyes fixed to the light, although there was little. I struggled in my seat, I had been tied to a chair. My eyepatch had been removed, allowing me to scan the room. I searched for anything, yet the room was empty and dark. All I could make out was a slightly opened window with the smallest shimmer of light creeping through the rigid curtains.

I figured the room was too dark for my eye to find anything, so I tried to use a spell I remembered from when I was young. "Oculis Ardentibus!" I called, my eyes shone a dim light as it had been a while since I'd used a spell.

The light was more than enough to scan the room, however. I searched once more and found that the room seemed to be more of an attic. There were cobwebs in the sharp corners and on various furniture scattered around the room.

I turn to my left and scream. "Elizabeth?!" I yell, the lights in my eyes flickering from the sheer shock of it all.

"Witchcraft? Really? You couldn't wait another 5 minutes for me to build the ambience?" She hissed, tapping the side of my head and muttering the word "indicium."

"Y-you're alive!" I was euphoric, practically jumping out of my chair.

"This could've been so much more interesting, you could've screamed, called for help, asked where you were, sheesh."

I tilted my head slightly. "Wait... why am I tied to a chair?" I asked, my heart racing. "Usually when you see your girlfriend after being missing for years, you don't tie them to a chair. Unless this is meant to be some BDSM thing."

She groaned, shaking her head. "You and I were a fling at best." She refused to face me. "I had to disappear because of you. Because your idiotic butler heard of us that night."

"What? Elizabeth, I command him to do as I please! If you had've told me I could've had him rip his own eardrums from his head!" My heart shattered, did she really leave because of me?

"Bullshit. You depend on that demon, you know so." She huffed, crossing her arms and facing away from me.

"I would rather being rendered helpless than being without you, Lizzie." I felt cold tears run down my cheeks to my neck. "I've been counting the days since you left, wondering how you were, if you were okay, why you didn't bring me with you... I..." I felt myself choking on my tears, this felt just like that night.

"Don't get sappy me on me, mongrel." She growled, kicking the side of the chair.

"I would've ran with you to the ends of the earth, you knew that. You still know that. That's why I went to the town hall at midnight, that's why I haven't used a spell to get out of here, that's why I haven't called for Alfred." I slipped my hands out of the cuffs. "I love you, Elizabeth. Even as we stand in this attic which you captured me in, even after having not seen you in many loveless years, even after being betrayed by you, I'm still in love with you!"

"That makes you weak. I hadn't thought of you since I left."

"This is exactly what I mean! Do you even know how it feels to want to sacrifice every living soul on this earth to even be close to not loving someone?" I stood from the chair and walked over to her. "And yet still... want to have them in your arms even more?" I lifted her hands as she refused to face me.

"It doesn't matter how you feel. I'm a different person now." She sighed. "I... don't love you anymore. We were kids. We didn't know what love was."
