Chapter 2 - Being the Strange, New Girl

I see a small ray of light shining through a blanket of dark, ominous clouds. It hits the fields of grass stretching out as far as the eye can see. I walk towards the light, feeling a comforting pull from it. I reach out, and it feels warm. Comforting. Calming.

I hear the sound of a clicking lock than an ear-popping bang. A feeling of pain abruptly hits my stomach, forcing me to keel over in agony.

-

I let out an all mighty yell as I jerk awake. My heart is beating fast, and I feel sweat coating my body. I clutch my stomach, but there is no longer any pain. I breathe in and out deeply and steady my racing pulse.

After the initial shock of the dream, I become acutely aware of shuffling feet in the room. My eyes, unfortunately, have not adjusted to the new light, and all I can see are clumps of blurred colours. Pinks, yellows, blues; they're all just a fuzzy mess before me. I blink rapidly to regain any sight I can. All my efforts go in vain as my vision doesn't change.

A hand grabs my own, and I retreat violently, sitting up and turning in the direction.

"W-who's there?" I ask. My voice is shaky and rough, yet better than before.

"I'm the girl who helped you earlier. Don't you recognise me?" A feminine voice states. Listening carefully, the voice does sound very similar to the woman at that time.

"She cannot see you clearly right now," sn elderly voice echoes softly through the room. "Look at her eyes. It's a side effect of the medicine I gave her."

"They're white..."

I back away a bit more and cover my eyes, scared of this new development. I rub my fists back and forth vigorously until my eyelids burn from the friction. I heave out breaths of air as I feel the unease in my stomach rise.

In a matter of seconds, I hear the sound of wood hitting stone, the rush of feet, and feel a wave of searing heat. It rushes over my body, and I start to sweat more than ever. I look around frantically to find the source and merely see another blur. This time it's made of moving orangy-red colours.

A man's voice cries out in panic. "Lucy, what happened?! I heard a shout!"

"Natsu!" The apparent 'Lucy' yells back.

"I knew you should've left her there. Something smelt off about her."

'Smelt?' I think quizzically.

"No, it's alright, I'm fine!" She yells back to the enraged male. "She just had a bad dream or something. Don't hurt her!"

The heat starts to creep closer and closer to me. I recoil into the bed as burning pain is about to become inevitable. I let out a small whimper and squeeze my eyes closed, but the heat suddenly vanishes, leaving the room now icy cold. I shiver slightly as I sit back up.

"...Fine." 'Natsu' mumbles out.

The room falls into an unbroken silence for the next few minutes. I shift around slightly in my bed and feel around my area. I trace my fingers along a varnish covered table beside me. The rim is pointed but the corners rounded. The very top of the object it flat, topped by items that resemble a towel, a class of liquid and a lamp. It intrigues me to know what this table really looks like.

Once again, footsteps reach my ears and hands meet my arm. They slowly start to roll up my sleeve, but I pull my arm back hastily.

"Calm down." A croaky voiced woman commands. "I'm just placing a strap on your arm so I can monitor your body activity."
