Chapter 6 - Meeting in the Rain
Siara's P.O.V (and we're back)
Porlyusica is kind enough to let me off the hook this time with my punishment. She told me to promise I would stay in the guild until further notice. But in all honestly, I really don't want to. I don't know if I've always been like this, but staying inside feels so suffocating to me. But, ss requested, I remain in the guild for the rest of that day.
However, once I wake up the next morning, I can hear it. Rain. That time where the sky cries, and yet I can't help but feel happy while in it. And sure enough, as I peer outside the grand doors, I see rain falling like pellets.
Unfortunately, Porlyusica spots me and rushes over.
"I told you before, no leaving the guild!" she chastises. Her face is stern as her red hawk-like eyes drill into my skull.
"I know, but, I'll use an umbrella..." I say. "I'm a mage of water for god's sake, water is my life!"
Her expression doesn't change, but she does seem to think over my argument.
"A mage of water!?" A voice exclaims. "You must be Juvia's new rival. No, you are Juvia's ultimate rival!" A woman with deep ocean-blue hair stomps over to me with flaming eyes. I start to back away, but the closed door behind me stops my escape.
"I, uh... sorry?"
I glance over to a table near us where Natsu, Erza, Gray and Lucy are sitting, having fun watching our feud go down with smiles on their faces. I mouth out 'help me' in hopes they come and take Juvia away. They oblige by sending Gray over to distract Juvia, much to his displeasure. Once Gray has appeared next to Juvia her expression of utter hatred turns into a love infested smile.
I take my opportunity to escape out the door, despite Porlyusica's clenched teeth. Picking up an umbrella by the entrance and opening it, I make my way through the quiet streets of the town.
Not many people are out today, but they can't be blamed for that. Not many people enjoy the rain. I'm just one of those special ones who adore it.
On my travels, I see a silhouette in the distance. The person appears to have no coverage over their head. So, being the nice person I am, I fabricate a small ice dome from the surrounding water. As the body gets closer, I begin to recognise the casual walk of a particular black-haired, purple-eyed man in the guild. I move the disk over to him and hover it just over his head.
"You're gonna catch a cold if you keep this up," I call through the rain. I move closer, and Jamaad's eyes turn to me, half shocked, half confused.
"Hi, Siara," he greets. "I thought you weren't allowed out of the guild."
"I had an incident with, Juvia, I think her name was."
"It was bound to happen someday..." he chuckles lightly.
"Are you are heading to the guild?"
"A bit later, yes."
"Here, you can borrow the umbrella then." I scoot closer closing the gap between us, holding the umbrella over both of our heads. One drenched, one unwantedly dry.
"Oh, n-no, I'm okay," Jamaad says, putting his hands up and creeping slowly backwards. But I follow him keeping the umbrella over his head. Although I can't see his face very clearly, I can make out the new colouring of his cheeks.
"Just put it outside the entrance when you're done, okay?"
"But... w-wait!"
Ignoring his words, I fling the umbrella into his hands and runoff, using the pre-made dome over my head instead. I wave goodbye and disappear into the rain.
-
The rain falls ever faster, hitting the small icy dome with such forces that I'm struggling to keep it together. I search for a path back through the blur dominated streets, but it's pointless to try. It's too dense.
My shoes have become drenched, and every step I take makes the souls of them squish in between my toes and send shivers up my spine. I know I said earlier that I loved the rain, but right now I don't, and you can blame the shoes for that.
If I had it my way, I would strip down and run around in the rain like a maniac. But I like to keep as much of my dignity as humanly possible. I'd also prefer not to get even more of an ear full from Porlyusica then I'm already marked down for.
-
After what feels like forever, I find my way back to the guild. I look down at the floor just outside, but the umbrella I am looking for is nowhere to be found. I slowly creak open the heavy wooden door and sneak inside. For the first few seconds, my presence goes unnoticed. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be, as my name is echoed across the sizeably crowded room and the loud footsteps of an unhappy old woman come closer.
"Siara!" Porlyusica calls.
I'm so gonna get it.
"Hey..." I reply. I breathe a sigh of disappointment at my detection. But, now there's no use in resisting the woman; I've given up on all the excuses. I know what's going to happen and there is no point in fighting.
Porlyusica keeps walking until we are almost nose to nose.
"I understand why you did it," she says. "But, for the last time, don't do it again!"
A grin grows over my face, now full of delight. I honestly thought I'd be in for a thrashing. But this is ten times better. Without much thought, I rush forward and embrace the elderly woman.
"Get off of me!"
I honestly forgot that she doesn't like any contact with or affection from others. I relinquish my hold on her and run down the steps to my bed, beaming all the way.
I dive into the once neatly laid bedsheets and make a complete mess of them. My body is overflowing with happiness. I don't know why I'm feeling this good, but I'm not complaining. I lay there comfortable for quite some time before sleep welcomes me into their waiting arms.
-
I'm standing in a field of grass again, even greener than before. I walk towards the beam of light in front of me, just as I did so many times previously. I stick out my hand and touch it, feeling that comforting warmth. Once more, that loud sound is heard echoing across the endless sea of green. But unusually, I do not feel the pain.
I whirl around to find the source of the noise. Once I turn to see, it is not a person with a gun as I expected. Instead, there stands a familiar man, clutching his stomach. Tears run down his cheeks as he grips his abdomen in pain.
"Jamaad!"
