I spent the rest of the night with Jaimie; we went back to his house because it was too cold to stay outside. I decided to crash there the night and it was like old times. Work had rung me saying I didn’t have to go in, which was good but it meant I had to go home. I was walking home all rugged up in my work uniform, but at least it was warm.

I opened the door and I heard laughing, well glad they had a good night. I saw Dad first.

‘Leyna, where have you been? You scared me!’ he said hugging me

‘I stayed at Jaimie’s house the night’ I smiled

I walked up to our room hoping Liam was in the lounge room, as I got there I realised he wasn’t. He was sitting on the bed playing with his fingers.

‘Leyna, can we please talk?’

‘What is there to talk about?’

‘Last night’

‘Just drop it’

‘I can’t’

Of course.

‘If I can, you can’ I said walking out

I started walking to the lounge room when he stopped me and pulled me to face him.

‘Please just talk to me’

‘Fine’ I gave in

We walked into the room and he sat on the bed and I leant against the door frame, I was angry at him because he didn’t believe me, because he told me I was wrong and he didn’t trust me.

‘Where did you go last night?’

‘To Jaimie’s’

‘Why didn’t you come home?’

‘What are you? My dad? No so why does it matter?’

‘Because I care about you’

‘If you cared about me you would have trusted me last night, you would have believed me but you didn’t’

‘I was worried; I was scared that he had hurt you’ he stood up

‘I told you he didn’t so why didn’t you believe me, and then you wouldn’t have been worried!’ I started shouting

‘Because’ he said quietly ‘I loved you’

Did he just say he loved me?

‘Get out’

‘I didn’t mean that’ he tried to grab my hands

‘Get out!’ I shouted

I slammed the door and slid down the back of it and curled into a ball and cried. I can’t believe he said loved, how do you make a mistake like that? He obviously doesn’t love me if he says that and did what he did last night. I heard a knock on my door but I ignored it.

‘Leyna, its Dad, let me in’

I opened the door to let him in and then slammed it shut; he sat on my bed and faced me. I was still sitting on the floor in a ball.

‘Leyna what happened?’

Why did everyone always have to add my name in every sentence?

‘Nothing’

‘It was obviously something because you are up here crying and Liam stormed out pretty upset’

‘He just didn’t trust me and didn’t believe me, and he said he loved me’
