Chapter 6:

We then got to the party and as we were  walking in I saw Alex coming toward us, he greeted us and offered some beer to both of us, Sophie grabbed the red solo cup and went away to talk to some of her school friends.

“no thanks, I don´t drink” I said, not accepting the red solo cup, “but is it okay if I go outside to smoke?” I asked with a crooked smile on my face, god I needed that smoke.

“sure, there is no one outside though, I can keep you company if you would like” he said smiling at me.

“oh no that´s okay! I like being alone anyways, but thanks though” I said walking outside.

I was sitting in the driveway with the smoke in my hand; I was so relaxed and relieved. I really liked coming to these parties. I felt like I was part of the normal people, everyone there accepted me and was really nice to me since everyone went to Sophie´s School, and not mine. Thank god for that.

I was just sitting there thinking so much I wasn´t even aware of my surroundings, and then I went out of my bubble when someone sat next to me.

“Hey Casey, what are you doing here?” a familiar voice said, I then knew who it was. Nash.

“I´m smoking, what does it look like I´m doing” I snapped

“I meant in this house”

“Well…. I came because some friends invited me over, and since I don´t drink, I decided to come outside to have a smoke, which I really needed” I said showing him the smoke in my hand.

“You were invited to this party? Yeah right” he laughed

“ shut up Nash, really the least thing I need is you coming here and acting like a fucking dick” I said getting really mad at him

“I was just joking, jeez….. calm down” he said

“k” I said getting up, throwing what´s left of my cigarrete to the floor and stepping on it. Then pulling another one from my package and lighting it, going away to the back yard of the house.

I went to the back yard and just sat in the perfectly cut grass, with the smoke in my hand. Nash sat next to me again

“Dude, seriously, why do you smoke?, drinking is so much better and it isn´t as harmful” he asked

“Let’s just repeat Alaska´s words from john green´s book ¨looking for Alaska¨, I´ll die young, but at least I´ll die smart” I said taking a sip of my cig and letting the smoke come out of my mouth.

He just gave me a confused look, I could notice he didn´t understand a word I said.

“you see, drinking kills neurons, and makes people stupid, the more you drink, the less neurons you have, and the less neurons you have, the more stupid you are….. And smoking only kills you very very slowly, by burning your lungs, but you get to keep your intelligence.” I say very slowly so he understands.

“But why do you prefer smoking if it’s so bad for your lungs?” he says still confused.

“Because it soothes me, knowing that I’ll die, because deep inside I want to” I say very serious, then just stood up, threw my smoke to the ground and walked inside the house.
