Chapter 28 - Our Lives, Our Decisions

Alpha station had taken much damage after the more than rough landing on Earth. Wick has given me the full story of life on the Ark for the past month. Without any exodus ships left after a self declared dictator, Diana Sydney, the Ark was left to use the stations as ways to ground. The newly established "Camp Jaha" was filled with busy people. I met Sinclair and Wick in the room that was designated to be the next technology room.

"I hate to say I only come with bad news." I say getting both of their attentions, "Raven needs surgery if she is ever going to walk again. The worst part is that we don't have any anesthetics so she will be awake and feel all of it. And as you all know, she's one of the smartest, strongest people ever and has decided to go on with it, no matter the risk."

"Oh god." Wick stresses putting his head in his hands. Sinclair begins to paces back and forth.

"They are starting in a few minutes. So I have to get back." I say sadly.

"Wait. Mack." Sinclair stops me. He walks over to me and pulls me into a hug. I feel tease threaten my eyes as he holds me. "She's gonna be fine." He whispers in my ear trying to reassure me. I nod lightly taking a deep breathe.

Watching Raven break down was one of the hardest things I have ever experienced. To watch he scream and cry as Abby cut her skin open to dig for the bullet. Finn and I did everything possible to comfort her but it was no match.

The screams subsided as Abby pulled the bullet out. Finn and I looked at each other and then back to Raven to give her a reassuring smile. She finally took a deep breath that wasn't blocked by a scream. Her eyes fluttered as they became heavy. Raven soon fell asleep with Finn following soon after. I sat in the corner traumatized by what I just witnessed. I watch as Marcus Kane, or should I say newly Chancellor Kane, walked in with concerns over Raven. I quickly went to my old habits of listen in on his conversation.

"That's one thing these kids have. Courage." He says almost seeming proud, "Bellamy can't wait to get back out there."

My listening becomes more intent when I hear his name. I wasn't surprised. To think Bellamy had gone from hiding in camp a few days ago to now ready to take on the search himself. I couldn't help but smile. I agree too. If it weren't for Raven I would already be out there and I sure the same could be said about Finn.

"He wants to help his friends." Abby says understandingly.

"We all want to find them, Abby. But not without a plan. Or an idea of what is out there." I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him. The plan was search and track until we find them. I wasn't going to give up on my friends.

"You didn't send that search team out, did you?" Abby question making my blood boil already assuming the answer.

"I cannot let our people out until this camp is secured." Kane states letting his head hang. I can't handle this anymore.
