Lams - Flow

John, Lafayette, Hercules and I were sitting on the rooftop of a restraunt together, drinks in hand. The waters of New York Harbor stretched out across the horizon. We were laughing and talking, and thankfully none of us were drunk.

"I am going to go purchase a cup of water. I do not wish to drink any more of this wine stuff," Lafayette whined, excusing himself from the table and going back into the building. Hercules chuckled, "Well, someone has to make sure he orders the right thing this time."

"This time? When has he not ordered the right thing?"

"I'll tell you some other time, John. Point is, I'm going down there with him." We laughed as Hercules rushed down after Lafayette. It was just me and John now, on the rooftop by New York Harbor and midnight.

A cool breeze drifted by, and I stared at John. Moonlight sparked his features, a small smile on his face as he looked up at the stars.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" He asks me.

"Lots of things that are here right now are beautiful, John," I say, chuckling, "you'll have to be more specific."

John smiles wider. "True. But I'm talking about the flow. Can you feel it?"

"The...flow?" I smile, confused, and get up from by chair to stand next to him by the railing. "You mean the currents in the water?"

"No, Alex, I mean the lively flow surrounding us. The way that the moonlight bounces off of the water, the sound of waves crashing back and forth, the breeze that rushes by. The sweet smell of flowers down below...can't you feel it?"

"...No, I can't." I say plainly.

"Here," John says. He comes up behind me and gently takes my arms in his hands. Slowly John raises my arms, spreads them through the wind. "Close your eyes," he says. "Relax and you'll feel it."

I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Suddenly a harmonious world opens up to my senses. I hear the waves more clearly, I feel the texture of the breeze. Moonlight touches my skin, and for a minute it's just me, John, and this amazing world we live in silently enjoying ourselves.

I open my eyes. Turning to John, I grin. "I felt the flow."

He smiles back. "I know. I could tell. The way the tensity in your body suddenly disappeared as I held you, the ryhthm of your breathing...it was almost like a second flow racing through my mind."

"Racing?" I ask him. "I thought it would be more calm..." I lean in towards him. A look of pure admiration and longing glimmers in John's eye, but he hesitates to lean in with me. It's like he's afraid of embracing this new flow he feels.

"Hey," I tell him reassuringly. "just picture this; Hercules and Lafayette aren't here, nobody else is here. It's just you, me, and --"

I'm cut off by John kissing me, and suddenly as I return the kiss the world around me seems to have a new flow.

Love.
