I walked down, slowly but surely, the metal staircase. Down towards that steel door.

That steel door was where the machine was.

It's where Peggy Schuyler was being held captive.

So she could make us golden roses. She had that ability.

I put in the combination. A robotic voice rang out as the door unlocked: "Access granted."

I went into the cold room, locking the door behind me, and entered Peggy's chamber. She was wearing her tattered, dandelion yellow dress, and her brown curls didn't have the same bounce that they used to. She was broken. Not physically, but emotionally.

   "Hey, Peggy." I said.

   "Go away."

"Peggy, I need you to --"

"I said GO AWAY!" Peggy got onto her feet and kicked me in the shin. I collapsed onto the ground.

It hurt. But I was used to it.

James used to do it all the time.

But that didn't matter. Akex had gotten rid of James for me. Now I don't have to be in pain. Now...

   ...

"Peggy, please let me talk to you," I begged her. I was being sincere; I wanted to be nice to her. But I was kind of draining her hybrid energy to create an easy way to wealth...eh.

"Fine. Talk, then. Tell me you want to use me some more. So that you can have freedom, and leave me behind to rot."

   "Peggy, that's not --"

The young Schuyler sister laughed. "Oh, yes it is. Why else would you have me chained to a secret machine and use my ability just so you can escape past the barrier with your new boyfriend and his little gang of rebel thieves!"

"Alexander is not my boyfriend, he's just a normal friend. He saved me."

"SAVED you? You could have been such a better person, Maria! You were offered a life of REAL friendship, and instead you choose them."

That was where I drew the line.

"He saved me from James, you oblivious brat!"

Peggy went silent. Which was unlike her. I snatched the key to her chamber doors off the wall and unlocked the metal bar door keeping her in. Being just as quiet as her, I grabbed the end of her chain -- the one attatched to her wrist -- and pulled her along towards the machine. "I need one more rose, Peggy."

   "Then we'll both be free."
