"Ah, Amy!"
The old librarian beamed at the young woman as she closed the door of the small, single floored library behind her.
"Good morning," She smiled back. "I've come to return the book I borrowed."
He blinked at her as she took out a red and black book embossed with gold lettering from her bag before placing it inside a returns basket.
"Finished already?" He half laughed, watching as she began browsing the shelves.
"I couldn't put it down," She grinned, glancing at him over her shoulder. "Do you have anything new?"
"Not since last week I'm afraid."
Amy made a small shrug as her brown eyes immediately landed on a dark blue leather spine. "That's all right. I'll borrow this one again."
The librarian chuckled as she pulled it off the shelf. "That one? You must have borrowed it three times!"
"It's my absolute favorite," She laughed hugging it to her chest as she stepped towards the cashier. "I could read it a hundred times and I would never get tired of it."
The librarian looked at her with a kind warmth in his eyes as she handed him the book to be stamped.
"Y'know what?" He said, handing it back to her. "I don't usually do this, but since you love it that much, you can keep it."
Amy's mouth fell open slightly as she looked down at the book before looking back up at the elderly man.
"Really?"
He nodded. "I insist."
Another grin lit up her whole face. "Thank you, that's so kind!"
"The pleasure is mine." He smiled as she placed it inside her bag before heading towards the main door. "Tell Kathryn I said hi."
"I will," Amy replied. "See you soon."

"Oh no..."
Amy was only half way down the street that resided the small house she shared with her best friend, Kathryn, but the sight of a tall masculine man with dark curly hair, leaning against the garden wall made her stop in her tracks.
She had half a mind to turn around and run back in to town, but the man had already looked up and pushed himself off the wall facing towards her with folded arms, poised with a superior stance.
Another man, who was slightly skinnier and slightly shorter, appeared suddenly by his side, glancing up anxiously at him.
"Why?" She groaned. "Why me of all people?!"
Knowing it would have been no good to walk back the other way, Amy heaved a sigh and continued her way down the path.
"Hello Amy," Grinned the taller man once she was within hearing range.
"Hello, Xyler," She said tonelessly before nodding to the other man. "Ethan."
"H-h-hi Amy..." Ethan stuttered, offering a clumsy finger wave.
"So where have you been this morning?" Xyler asked, elbowing Ethan aside. "Looking for me, perchance?"
She looked up at him with a blank expression. "I went to the library again."
Xyler's haughty expression suddenly turned into a baffled one. "But you went yesterday! Honestly, Amy, it's about time you got your head out of those books and paid attention to far more important things...like me. Right Ethan?"
"Y-yeah." Ethan nodded. "Really important."
Amy rolled her eyes. "Now why would I do that, Xyler?"
"Because it's not right for a woman to read. She'll get ideas and start...thinking!"
Letting out another sigh, she shook her head with disbelief. "Xyler, your attitude is primordial."
"Why thank you." The muscular man said with a smug smirk as Ethan tried to hold in his laughter. "Say, Amy, Whaddya say you and I head over to my house and look at my sports trophies?"
It took all her willpower to not cringe at the idea. "Maybe another time. Kathryn and I have plans."
"Oh yeah, the editor." Ethan snickered along with Xyler. "Has she ever been outside? She looks as though she's never seen the sun!"
Amy sent a glare towards them. "Don't talk about my friend like that."
Xyler's expression quickly changed to a stern one towards Ethan. "Yeah, don't talk about her friend like that." He scolded, thumping him on top of the head with his fist.
"She's a great editor and she probably has more skill and creativity in her little finger than you two have put together!"
Not waiting (or caring) to hear their response, Amy stormed down her driveway and flung open the front door before slamming it shut behind her.
"Urgh!" She groaned as she headed towards the kitchen where she found Kathryn waiting by the coffee maker.
"What's got your panties in a knot?" She asked, lifting her mug off the drainer.
"2 words," Amy said holding up two fingers. "Xyler Scheid."
"Ah..." Kathryn nodded in understanding. "Still crushing on you?"
"I don't know what goes on inside his head. I've been telling him no since high school, but it's like he doesn't know the definition of it."
Kathryn smirked slightly. "I'd be surprised if he could spell it."
A giggle escaped from Amy. "That would make two of us. But enough about him, have you finished your latest masterpiece yet?"
Her friend froze mid-sip. "Well..." She let out a sigh, placing down her coffee. "I have no faith in it...I've changed the background music seven times already. I always seem to find something wrong with it and the media convention is tomorrow!"
Amy patted her on the shoulder. "You know I'm always honest with you. Why not let me have a look at it and I'll give you some feedback?"
A smile brightened Kathryn's face. "That's a good idea."
