Marlo was the first to move after Sage hit the floor. He cried, crawling out from under the table and went to their older brother. The twins followed but Elias sat in shock. He didn't know what was going on and his vision was blurry. Almost as bad as when he didn't have his glasses on. He touched his face just to make sure he was still wearing them.
Removing the wire framed glasses, he was even more shocked to see clearly. More clearly than he'd ever been able to see without the help of glasses. He looked from the glittering glass on the floor to the dust particles swirling in the sun coming in through the window.
The loud slap that echoed through the quiet room brought Elias back to what was happening. Mia was prepared to slap Sage a second time but Elias rushed out from under the table in time to stop her.
"Don't do that! He could of hurt his neck or something when he fell."
Elias froze once again when his younger siblings all turned to him. They looked the same relatively but something was different. Their eyes seemed larger somehow. Not in a way that it was too obvious or concerning but they just seemed bigger and a little slanted. Elias shook his head and kneeled down beside Sage, moving a sniffling Marlo away from him.
"Sage?" Elias said, shaking him in the same way the kids already had. Biting his lip, he held his hand under his brother's nose just to make sure he was still breathing. Thank the Gods he was.
"Is he dead?" Marlo cried, dramatic as ever.
Elias rolled his eyes. "Of course not, he's just tired." He said, like he knew exactly why Sage hit the ground like a sack of potatoes.
"When I'm tired I don't do this!"
"That's because you're young, Sage is old."
"Oh..." Marlo's frown deepened. "Poor old people." He cooed, bending over to kiss Sage's cheek. His black curls fell forward and Elias caught a glimpse of the boy's pointed ear.
"You're both idiots!" Mia snapped, slapping Sage across the face again. He didn't move a muscle.
"We should call Brandon, he said to if anything bad happened." Aurora spoke up, gently taking Sage's head and scooting so it was resting in her lap.
"No, he's weird." Elias huffed. He knew he should probably call an ambulance or something.
"No he's not!"
"Shut up Rory."
The girl pouted and crossed her arms.
Elias grabbed his curls, at a loss. He had no idea what to do. What would Sage do?
"Maybe tickle him? Sage wakes me up with tickles."
Elias rolled his eyes at Marlo. Of course he'd end up watching them somehow. Standing up, he avoided the glass on the floor and picked up the phone that had fallen off the counter. He put it to his ear only to hear silence. "No dial tone. Shit."
The kids gasped at his language and he rolled his eyes again. At this rate they'd get stuck in the back of his head. Tapping his fingers on the counter, Elias looked down at his older brother and tried to think of what else he could do.
"Stay here." He decided, tip toeing around glass and leaving the kids with Sage.
The rest of the house wasn't so bad. Random picture frames had fallen from the walls and cracked, some movies had fallen from the entertainment center. Upstairs was messier but you wouldn't be able to tell from the amount of toys already scattered around. Elias sat on his bed to pull on a pair of shoes before grabbing a pair of Marlo's and stopping by the girls room to grab two pairs. While he was going down the stairs, the house started shaking again but it wasn't as bad as the first time and ended quickly.
