Chapter Ten

"Did you hear?" Kevin asked Adeline.

"Hear what? My heart breaking every time a fictional character dies?"

"Adeline."

"Sorry." She grinned.

The boy sighed,"The head of General Pickens is missing."

"Am I supposed to care about that?" She asked rolling her eyes.

"Adeline!" Kevin exclaimed.

"What? Didn't you hear what Toni said at Pickens Day?" Adeline asked.

"That's why they're blaming the Serpents for the missing head." Kevin responded.

Adeline stopped in her tracks,"They're blaming them? Do they even have any evidence?" She felt furious for them. The Serpents have become a second family to her and would defend them with her life.

"Why do you care so much?" Kevin asked. "Is it because of a certain tall, black haired boy with muscles that could-"

"Kev!" Adeline cut him off with heat rising in her cheeks.

Kevin gasped,"It is! Tell me all the details!" 

Adeline played with her hands nervously. Her heart began to race and she started to feel a little lightheaded. She sat on a random table and breathed out. Kevin sat across from her and eagerly waited for her response.

"He's- well," she started. "I just can't explain! I don't know how to describe my feelings for him."

Kevin placed his hand on hers,"But do you know that your feelings are true?" Adeline nodded slowly.

'Then, you better grab him by the horns and ri-"

"KEVIN!" Adeline shut her eyes and covered her ears. "Too much information."

Kevin glanced behind her and said,"Well, speak of the devil. There's your hunk of a man."

Sweet Pea walked up to their table and spoke,"Adeline, can we talk?"

A million thoughts crossed her mind as to what he wanted to talk about. She felt nervous, but excited at the same time. Just the sound of him talking made her happy and she could listen to him talk all day.

"Sure." She got up and looked at Kevin, who gave her a thumbs up.

The two began to walk away in silence. Only the sound of their footsteps and conversations of students were heard. Sweet Pea wanted to take her to a quiet place and hoped that everything he planned went through. He grabbed her hand and lead her through the halls of Riverdale High. He gently pulled her into an empty classroom and sat her on the desk. Goosebumps broke out on Adeline's skin when he picked her up.

"I'm sorry if picking you up like that was weird," Sweet Pea said. "I just wanted to be at eye level with you right now."

Adeline blushed,"It's okay. I kinda liked it." She whispered the last bit to herself. She thanked God that he didn't hear her.

"I brought you here because I wanted to ask you something." He said nervously. Sweet Pea was a mess at the moment and felt like he would faint. Adeline made him feel all sorts of stuff and he liked it.

"Would you go on a date with me after school?" He rushed out.

Adeline didn't say anything for a couple seconds. She was in shock, but estatic. She felt butterflies in her stomach and wanted to scream. Sweet Pea made her feel many emotions at once it almost felt sickening.

"You can say no if you want to." He said looking down.

Her eyes widened and blurted out,"No!"

Sweet Pea felt sadness wash over him and whispered,"Okay."

The girl realized her mistake and grabbed his face,"No, what I meant to say is, yes." She stared deep into his chocolate eyes. "Yes, I would go on a date with you."

Sweet Pea stared into her wide, blue eyes and leaned in slightly. At this point, he had no control over his body. It was as though someone placed a spell on him. And that spell being Adeline. She drew him in with her beauty and personality that no other person had. She was an angel from heaven and deserved everything she wanted. And in this moment, the only thought on his mind right now was to kiss the angel in front of him. But sadly, the bell rung as their lips brushed against one another. They jumped apart with pounding hearts and rosy cheeks.

"I'll see you after school." The angel whispered and left the classroom. Sweet Pea stared after her figure and smiled to himself.

Meet me in the parking lot.

It was finally after school and Sweet Pea texted her to meet him. Adeline ran through the halls and bursted out the doors. In the distance, she could see Sweet Pea leaning against a truck with a bouquet of flowers in his hand.

"So cheesy." Adeline teased when she reached him.

"Only for you." He smirked at her.

She blushed and eyed the truck,"Whose truck is this?"

"It's Axel's." He opened the door for her and watched as she climbed inside.

"What did he want in return for it?" She rolled her eyes with small smile.

Sweet Pea climbed into the drivers seat and turned on the car. "He wanted your number at first, but FP and Danny threatened him. So, he just gave me his truck and ordered another drink."

"He drinks too much." The Serpent agreed with her and pulled out of the parking lot.

After about ten minutes of driving, Sweet Pea pulled up to a small clearing. It had a table decorated with small flowers and a plaid cloth. On top of the plaid cloth was food from Pops and baked goods from the bakery. And an unlit lantern was placed onto the table next to a speaker.

Adeline gasped in shock as she stared at the scenery in front of her. "You did all this?" She asked looking at Sweet Pea.

He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly and replied,"I had some help from your dad, Kevin, and Toni."

"My dad and Kevin knew?!"

"Yeah."

"Those assbutts."

Sweet Pea stared at her adoringly when she scrunched up her nose. He felt like a whole new person whenever he was around her. She brought out the parts in him that he never knew existed.

"When did you guys have the time to do all this?" Adeline asked as he guided her to the table.

"Kevin and Toni told me what to get and what to do, so I skipped last period to arrange everything."

"You're so sweet, it hurts." Adeline said with her face in her hands.

"It's in my name." He grinned at her. Adeline shoved him and began eat.
