Chapter 6

Namjoon was growling under his breath. He burst into the audience chamber, startling both of his parents. He yells, "Father why? Why would you do something like this? Is this some kind of game to you?" King Hyeon replies calmly, "You didn't protest when I announced it." He clenches his fists, "You announced it before I could even say anything! I REFUSE TO MARRY SOMEONE AS SELF-CENTRED AS HER!" Namjoon storms off. He had to break off this engagement.

You refused to leave your room that morning. Ever since you heard the news, your heart felt like it had been shattered to pieces. You had to pretend that you were okay. You had to wear a mask and you hated it. You just hoped that Namjoon was okay.

Back at the castle, Namjoon was absolutely furious. He hated the fact that he had to marry someone he did not care for. That was when an idea popped into his head. He called his butler and said, "I have an idea. It may be crazy, but it will help me break off this engagement to Aurelia."

When you step outside your room, you notice that it is unusually quiet. You see a note signalling that everyone had left earlier. Since you were home alone, you decided to read a book. All of a sudden, the door flew open. You blink, "Unnie? What's going on?" She just turns on the TV and motions you to look. "Prince Namjoon has announced that he and Princess Aurelia are no longer engaged. Instead, he has announced that he is engaged to a commoner." Your eyes widen, "T-That's..." Lisa said, "Those are pictures from the conference, Y/N. I don't know how the paps got a hold of them. Were you aware of this?" You shake your head, "No...this is all new to me, unnie."

"YOU DID WHAT?!?" Queen Naria was angry at Namjoon for what he did. She growls, "Don't get Y/N mixed up in your problems, Namjoon. She is just a student. You can't get her mixed up in your marriage problems." Namjoon replies, "Mother, I know what I'm doing. I know I'm making the right choice. Please trust me." She sighs, "How are we supposed to explain this to her? She's probably seen the news coverage of it already." "Your highness?" It was Rina. Queen Naria motions her to enter the chamber. She held a letter. She said, "It's a letter from Lady Y/N."

Back with the Jeon royal family, Jungkook was not sure if he should bother Jimin with his concerns. He decided to speak with his older brother, Hoseok. He found his older brother in the courtyard reading a book. Hoseok notices his younger brother and smiles. His smile disappears when he notices the worried expression in Jungkook's eyes. Hoseok asked, "What's wrong, Kook?" Jungkook asked, "Remember when Jimin and I talked about Y/N noona?" Hoseok questions, "Literature girl? Yes why?" Jungkook replies, "I think Namjoon might be getting her mixed up in his mess."

Later that day, all you could think about was that announcement. There had to be a reason behind it. What could it be? That question continued to swirl through your mind. You hear a knock on the door. Lisa calls out, "I got it!" Lisa screamed, causing you to run to the front door. You blink, "Jin?" Prince Jin smiles, "Hello Y/N, Lady Lisa." He bows gracefully and adds, "I apologize but I need to borrow your sister for a little while, Lady Lisa." She just nods and you leave with Jin.

When you enter the castle, you are suddenly tackled to the ground. Taehyung buried his head in your shoulder. Jin facepalms, "Tae..not now." Taehyung sheepishly grins and helps you up. He whispers to you, "Welcome back Y/N noona. I really missed you." You make your way to the audience chamber of the king and queen. When you enter, you are met with an apologetic looking Queen Naria. You hear Queen Naria say, "Raise your head, my dear. You did nothing wrong." "Finally, she's here." You turn to see Prince Namjoon enter the chamber with an annoyed expression.

Moments later, Jin explained the situation to you. Jin exhales sharply, "Namjoon was originally supposed to marry Aurelia. She's a princess from a land called Nightingale. However, none of us really like her. From what Namjoon told me, she's quite self-centred and disrespectful. She doesn't care for her people, she only cares for her reputation. She hides under a mask of lies, Y/N. Namjoon nearly lost it when he found out what Father did." He looks at you with hopeful eyes, "I truly apologize for getting you into this, my dear. Please help my brother. He is still scarred from a past love and needs someone to heal him." You respond quickly, "Hold on, Jin. How am I supposed to help Namjoon? He hates me. He won't care if anything happens to me during this facade." Jin shakes his head in disagreement, "I don't think my brother hates you. Actually, I think it's quite the opposite, Y/N." You ask, "What do I have to do, Jin?" Jin thinks for a moment before replying, "It seems like Namjoon overstepped his boundaries as a prince. I hate to say this but...you have to pretend to be engaged to Namjoon." You choke, "E-Engaged?! How can I be engaged to someone who doesn't like me?!"
