RED

Red- Chapter 5

I woke up later that night after taking a long nap. The pain was starting to come back but not to the extent that it was in the morning. I felt good enough to go to the town to get some food since I was running low.

I got out of bed gently not to hurt myself more and went to my closet. I picked out some fabric
black shorts and a green hoddie. I put my long hair in a messy ponytail. I don't wear makeup almost ever so I just left my face bare which showed my freckles.

I walked down the stairs feeling stiff and put on some white adidas runners. I grabbed my truck keys and opened my front door looking around to make sure it was safe to go.

Thinking back to the men , I was so scared on how they managed to find me. I drove very far from my old pack and it's been quite a while since I left so I'm surprised they found my sent.

I drove into the town and went to the local grocery store which was owned by a small family.

"Hello Red! How are you?" I was greeted by Flora , the shop owner.

"I'm doing well how are you?" I replied nicely picking up a basket for my food.

"I'm doing well, besides my daughter. She's driving me insane! She wants to go to the mall but I can't leave the shop alone." She said annoyed cleaning the counter.

"How old is she?" I asked curious since I've never seen her daughter.

"She's 18 this year, oh that's how old you are ! Would you like to go with her to the mall! I don't want her going alone." Flora asked me sweetly.

Flora gave me discounts on all the food and helped me when I was moving into the town, telling me where to buy things and made my life a lot easier. I thought about going to the mall with a random girl I don't know and it made me uncomfortable. I never got along with girls beside Alexis, but at the same time I felt like I owed Flora something.

"Uh sure, when would she like to go? Is tomorrow good?" I asked hesitantly.

"HAILEY!! Come downstairs !!" Flora yelled.

"Yea mom?"I heard a voice say as I heard the creaks of feet on stairs.

"This young lady Red, the girl I was telling you about, would like to go to the mall tomorrow. Do you want to join her?" Flora asked her daughter.

"Ya sounds good to me, I'm Hailey by the way. It's nice to see another girl my age in town." He said smiling stretching out her hand. I took her hand and shook it smiling back at her.

"Are there not a lot of teenagers who live here?" I asked realizing I haven't seen many people my age.

"No most of them live ... father away." She said hesitantly. Weird.

"I see, well I'm here! I can pick you up tomorrow from here at 11:00?" I said trying to change the topic.

"Sounds great. I'm just doing some school work upstairs but i'll see you tomorrow." Hailey said.

"See you tomorrow." I said waving bye to her as she went back upstairs.

"Thanks again." Flora said while counting her tip money.
