“Wait! Stop! No!” I find myself shouting out as I watch the two police officers load Carter into their car. I run over to where they are “What do you think you’re doing?” I question them; the police men turn around to look at me. Police man one looks British, he is tall and lanky, and he has a black thin moustache that give off the impersonation of an officer from the first world war. Police man two is a small stubby guy, with blond hair that is probably cut longer then my own hair.
“I’m sorry who are you?” Police man one says in his high pitch voice with a British accent. “It doesn’t matter who I am! But that’s my friend Carter and you can’t take her away” I am almost shouting back at him. “Well your friend, Carter, has just been caught stealing at Woolworths in town at Finsley” Police man two tells me. “Carter wouldn’t steal, you’ve got the wrong person! You can’t take her!” I say losing my cool. “We watched this young lady walk out of the store without paying, she is defiantly the right person. She is going to need to be taken down to the police station for questioning, and if you know her your quite welcome to accompany her” Police man one tells me.
“Fine” I spit “Take us down to your stupid police station! And then Carter will tell you that she has done nothing wrong!” I hop into the seat next to where Carter has been put. “Alix?” I look over at Carter to her awakening. “Cart!” I whisper yell “What happened?” “Please don’t get mad” she pleads me. I just nod at her to go on.
“This morning , you know, it was like my turn to like shop” she spoke adding ‘like’ in probably more then she should have which told me she was nervous. “I-I couldn’t find the money, I asked Casey, she told me it was in the car. I searched for it, like heaps and heaps. But I couldn’t find anything, I went back to the room but Casey and Az were like asleep again, I didn’t want to like wake them, so I thought I could just use the spare money I had in my wallet for today and then find the rest of the money later.” Her story seemed to make sense so far, I didn’t see the flaw in it. “Ok, so why is it now we are heading towards a police station?” I questioned her.
At that moment police man two whips his head around, his oily blond hair flicking in front of his face, making him look even uglier than before. “Oi, you two” he began, we glared at him with wide eyes “Shut it” he snarled, not wanting us to get in anymore trouble then we already are in, I sighed, shut my mouth and rested back against the seat.
Soon enough we had arrive and both Carter were being escorted inside by the officers. They found the small knife I had hidden inside my shoe and taken it off me. This probably wasn’t a very good thing because now I would have to answer to why I was carrying knife around with me. I was shoved into a small white room; it contained a small desk with two chairs on either side. Carter and I were pushed in “Take a seat” the British police officer said before walking out and closing the door behind him.
“What happened? What happened? What happened?” I whipped my head towards Carter. “Ok, long story short Alix, I went to the shop and it turns out I didn’t have very much money. I couldn’t even afford breakfast for all five of us. So I thought I’d just run for it, and it was actually going quite well. But when I was about halfway back I realized I was being chased by two police officers, I honestly don’t know when they turned up. One minute there was no one, the next minute there was two cops after me.”
I looked at her shocked, how could she let such a small thing get in the way? Now our whole plan is going to be messed up! “Carter you idiot!” I hit her on the shoulder “we could have survived one morning without breakfast!” I continuously hit her. I let out a frustrated sign, “I’m really sorry Ali” I could tell she was genuinely sorry but I was too mad to be anything but angry.
“Why would you-” the door swung open, police officer one appeared at the door “I would like you to inform me of your name” he screeched staring at me. “Al-Ali-Alixandra” I stuttered, all my confidence from my outbreak from when I found Carter was gone, now I’ve gone back to being as shy as a lonely seep in a paddock full of cows. “Alixandra WHAT!?” he spat out at me “Clare. Alixandra C-Clare” I told him staring at the floor. “Well Ms. Clare please come with me” he said walking over and pulling my arm viscously and leading me out of the room. I shot a worried look at Carter before being dragged down the hall way and into a room identical to the one we were just in.
It may be too soon to be assuming thing, but I’m going to say these are the questioning rooms. “Sit” I am ordered. Without Carter beside me, I have lost even more confidence. Having my friends usually boosts my confidence times ten.
“What were you doing this morning when we found you?” he spoke in his high pitched voice. I found you I replied in my head. “Looking for Carter” I whispered talking to the floor, “What? I did not hear you?” he spat. I slowly raised my eyes to his and repeated my response. “What is your association with Carter Mace?” he stared hard into my eyes.
His questions went on for a few minutes before we heard the loud screeching of someone in the next room. The officer eyes looked up in panic “Excuse me” he said moving out from the desk and walking towards the door. He shut the door behind him, I sighed and sat back.
At that moment the door came crashing open again and the officer tumbles back inside falling on his backside. Carter appeared at the door with a murderous look in her eyes. “Carter! What are you doing?” I asked “shut yo mouth!” she glanced at me. She lunged towards the officer and shoved him against a wall. He quickly fought back and spun her around putting her in a head lock “What do you think you’re doing? What did you do to Frank?” Carter stared at me “A-Al-li” she choked out.
I had to do something, Carter is obviously trying to get us out of this mess and I’m standing here doing nothing. The officer slowly leads Carter towards the door. Then an idea strikes me. I move my body around the desk and pick up the chair he was sitting on before. I swung at him hitting around his upper arm and back, so that I don’t accidently hit Carter. “No-” the officer began but it was too late I slammed it into his body.
I hear a crack and feel the chair hit him really hard. Oh Shit I think I just broke his arm! I just assaulted a police officer. “Argggggggg” I he yells out fall to the floor, he winces in pain as his back hit the floor. There is blood streaming down from his upper arm, Carter then pushes him up against the wall with her foot. “HELP! HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME!” the officer screams out as loud as he possibly can. Carter then jumps on him and pushes her arm against him neck.
“Shut yo mouth! Or I will cut you with a knife bigger than your dick!” she snarls at him. I let out a laugh that echoed around the room. I watched as she pulled my pocket knife that I had taken off me before, out of her shoe “I think this should be big enough” she chuckled making me laugh once again. I gazed at the officer and he had a look of fury in his eyes, he was obviously annoyed that Carter was trying to intimidate him.
With the arm that wasn’t injured I saw him reached up and hit lazily smacked the knife out of Carter’s hand. It went flying across the room straight towards me; I immediately dived to the side. My instincts told me to grab the knife as quick as I could. So I commando rolled across the floor in order to make it easier to get back on my feet. The knife had slid under the table, so I side stepped it and picked up the knife. I heard a small shriek from behind me and spun around to see that the police officer had gotten Carter into a head lock again with his good arm.
She pushed toward the officer trying to break free from his vice grip but ended up kind of behind him, which allowed his arm to be wrapped around her neck entirely. “Now Ms. Clare please put down your weapon” He spoke in his British accent. “Al d-don’t” Carter choked out; I could see her face turning slightly purple. I had to do something and quick, I if listened to the police officer then Carter and I would be stuck at this police station for a while. I didn’t know what to do!
I remember when I was little after going watching spy movies with the Asians that did all the cool karate moves, flips and throwing knives. I used to go outside and pretend to be them; I would get sticks and threw them at trees pretending they were knives. That was about the extent of my practice of aiming, but I had to do something and quick. So I acted on the only plan my mind could form and I flung the knife out of my hand and it went spiralling into the air....
