We were speeding down the highway, as fast as we could go; the police cars had their sirens blaring, they had been trailing about 200 meters behind us for the last 15 minutes. We all sat in the car gripping our seats, unsure of what going to happen or how to get away.

“We need to figure out a way to lose them!” I told them all. All thoughts from before had left my mind, everything was now focused on now and how we were going to get away. “Az, grab that map” I told Aaron, who was sitting to the left of me with a map in the pocket on the back of the seat in front of him. He cast me an unsure glance before handing over the map, and watching me. I frantically flipped through the pages of “A Guide to the Streets of New South Wales”, trying to find where we were.

My fingers searched along the pages until I found the right place. “Nnnnnnnnnnn.....Nocundra Warri Warri Gate Road. That’s where we are” I explained to everyone in the car.

“Great, now we know where we are, that will help us escape the cops!” Nate snapped. I mentally groaned, along comes moody Nate. I turned to glare at him “Shut the fuck up Nate” I said bitterly turning back to the map book, I saw from the corner of my eye that he huffed and leaned back in his seat thinking hard. “This road goes on for kilometres, we’re in the middle of nowhere. The closest town is Naryilico and it doesn’t look like a very big place” I said in disappointment. Nate was kind of right, finding where we isn’t helping very much.

“Shit. Shit, shit, shit!” I heard curing from the front seat, I looked up to see Casey looking distressed, and her fingers were tangled in her orange mess of hair.

“What happened?” I asked, “We’re low on petrol” Casey informed us. Carter already knew this, she was over the shock “We need to fill up at the next petrol station, or we are going to be screwed” she panicked. “We can’t just stop, we have the cops right on our tail” Nate said in a ‘duh’ tone casting another glance behind him at the nearing police carts behind us.

Suddenly Aaron jumped slightly in his seat, snapping out a daze he was clearly in. I gave his a questioning glance, but his only answer was whipping around and reaching into the boot of the car. “Az?” he didn’t answer me, just started looking for something in our backpacks.  I sighed deciding that I would just wait to see what he is doing, since he is being unresponsive.

I was feeling scared, this was out of the norm. My life had always been just plain old boring life. Well excluding a few things like living in a town full of spies, both my parents being shot in the head by a murder and then suddenly I’ve killed a police officer and now we’re speedy down a road trying to escape from two police cars. This is my fault, if I hadn’t killed that police officer, I can’t believe I killed someone! I if hadn’t asked them to come with me in the first place, why was I so selfish? ‘I’m sorry guys, for getting usual into this mess. I shouldn’t have asked you to come, it’s so dangerous” I told them as my eyes watered.

Urg. I never used to be like this before, I hardly ever cried, now I’m even annoying myself with my new and annoying attitude.

C’mon Ali, Harden up!

I raised my hand next to my head, and effectively slapped myself across the face. Nate quickly grabbed my hand and entwined it with his too stop me from doing anymore self-harm. “Ali, calm down” he demanded, Aaron still had his head in the boot; Carter turned around to me from the passenger seat “Alix! Stop it. None, understand, none of this is your fault. We volunteered to come with you, we wanted to do this, and well what kind of friends would we be if we didn’t. You saved my life this morning and the most strong and freakin’ amazing person I know. So keep it together and focus on the task at hand!” she said sincerely. I gave her a half hearted smile before she turned back around, flicking her light brown hair that was tied up in a pony tail.
