Rise to Fame (A One Direction Fanfiction)

Chapter 15

This chapter is dedicated to Labpup13! She plays McKayla in the story and this is my way of telling her how much I miss her!!

"Skylar! Who was that? I have never seen them on the show before!" My mom said.

"Mom," Blake began. "Those are the boys in that one band that she likes. Her room is covered in posters of them!"

"Oh yeah! OneRepublic, right?" my dad said.

"Direction, dad. It's One Direction." I corrected.

"Oh, right. Sorry." He said.

"So are we ready to go or do you have to do things in there?" my mom asked.

"I need to go get my bags from my room. I'll meet you in the car." I said.

That was only part of the truth. Yes, I had to get my bags, but most importantly, I wanted to talk to McKayla.

When I walked into the room, McKayla was already packing.

"Hey! How did the signing thing go?" I asked.

"Oh my gosh it took For to the Evez. He made me read all of the rules for singing to his label and after I signed it, I had to promise that he would become 'Uncle Simon' from now on." She said.

I laughed and congratulated her.

"I honestly thought I would get kicked off during live shows." She said quietly.

"I didn't think I would make it past boot camp," I said and began packing. "But I'm proud of both of us."

Although I wasn't looking, I could feel her smiling at me.

"I'm glad I met you," I said softly. "Before I came here, I had friends, but the only one who would really ever talk to me was this guy named Luke. And he really liked me, so I never really had a chance to have a 'best friend.' But...I do now."

McKayla looked up at me with tears in her eyes.

"Will you promise me something?" I asked.

She nodded.

"When you become famous and have all these albums out and are going on tour with a bunch of famous people like Jai Waetford which you probably don't know who that is, but he got third place in The X Factor in Australia..." I took a deep breath. "Just promise me that you won't forget the people who were on the X Factor with you."

"I'm going to miss you, Skylar. And just for you, I will try and find this 'Jai Waetford' that you speak of and I will go on tour with him."

We both laughed and continued packing.

She was done before I was, but she waited for me.

As I zipped up my suitcase and grabbed my other bags, we walked out together.

Her mom, dad, brother and sister all met her in the lobby.

I watched as they gave her hugs and congratulated her. I was happy- no. Proud. I was proud that I got to witness something like that. It made me even prouder that behind her fan base, she has a family that is supporting her.

She turned to me and hugged me one last time before we parted.

On the car ride home, I realized that watching McKayla's family is just like my family. Although I hadn't realized it until now, my family supports me all the time!

I looked at my phone and saw that I had three texts messages.

From: UNKOWN

Hey, Skylar. This is Harry Styles. I just wanted to tell you that I have been watching your performances on YouTube and I think you are incredible! It was a pleasure meeting you and I hope we will keep in touch.

I smiled and typed back.

Hey, Harry! I'm glad you think I'm a great singer, LOLz! I'm really glad that I got to meet you today! I understand that you guys will be going on tour soon. I hope everything goes well and I hope to see you soon!

I looked at my other two messages. They were both from McKayla.

From: McKayla

Hey, gurl! I just got in the car and I'm already bored, LOL.

From: McKayla

I'm SO glad that you ended up being my roommate when both of ours got kicked off. I'm so proud of how far you made it. I wish you could have won, but as Augustus Waters would say, 'The world is not a wish-granting factory.'

We were texting the whole way home.

The real surprise was what was waiting for me when I got home.
