On Sunday Kai and Jeff took the kids to a near by park for a picnic. Oscar had a lot of fun on the playground and he had no trouble convincing Jeff to play too. It made Kai so happy to see how much the kids enjoyed having him around. Maddie did her best to keep up with her big brother, but eventually realised she just wasn't big enough to do everything he could and settled for being pushed in the swing by her Mum.

When lunch time came around they found a nice quiet spot and set up the picnic. After her busy and adventurous morning Maddie was feeling quite worn out. She had been sitting on Jeffrey's knee with her bunny while they all finished eating when she surprised Kailin by snuggling in to his chest. Within seconds she was asleep.

"Aww what a little sweetheart" Jeff cooed.

"She must really like you. She's never done that with anyone apart from me" Kai smiled.

"Well I'm certainly not complaining" he smiled. "She's so adorable".

Kai began to pack up around them as Oscar was off climbing a small tree. Carefully Jeff got to his feet, holding a sleeping Maddie in his arms and they began the short walk home, Oscar zooming on in front on his bike. When they arrived, Kai watched on as Jeff gently placed Maddie in her bed. It almost made her ovaries hurt the way he was so fatherly.

"Thank you" she whispered as she closed Maddie's door.

"No problem" he grinned, taking the moment to give her cheek a quick kiss, making her blush.

The rest of the day was pretty laid back as Oscar showed Jeff his train set. He enjoyed telling him all about Thomas the Tank Engine and even told him the name of every train. When Maddie was awake again they made the most of the sunny day and played out in the yard. The kids enjoyed splashing around in the little paddling pool Kai had set up.

When the day was over Kai began to get the kids ready for bed. She instructed Oscar to pick out a book and wait for her while she put Maddie down.

"Jeff..." came a small whisper from the doorway and he looked up to see Oscar standing there.

"Yeah buddy? Aren't you supposed to be in bed?"

"Can you read me a story?" Oscar asked as he walked out into the living room.

"Of course. Have you picked one out?" Jeff asked.

"Yup. C'mon" Oscar said excitedly as he grabbed Jeffrey's hand and led him to his room. As Oscar climbed in bed he handed Jeff a book.

"The Little Yellow Digger huh? This looks cool" he smiled.

"It's my favorite" Oscar smiled.

"Alright then. You comfortable?"

"Mhmm" the little boy nodded.

Jeffrey perched himself on the edge of the bed and began to read the story. A wee while later Kai emerged from Maddie's room and went to tuck Oscar in. When she approached his door she could here Jeff's voice. She stopped in the doorway and watched on as he read Oscar a story. She couldn't help the stream of tears falling from her eyes as Jeff read Oscar's favorite book to him.

"Thank you" a sleepy Oscar mumbled as Jeff finished up the last page.

"No problem buddy. Sleep tight" he smiled as stroked the wee boys hair. As he sat the book on the nightstand he realised Kai was standing in the doorway with tears in her eyes.

"Darlin are you okay? Did I do something wrong?" He asked, a worried tone in his voice as he wiped the tears from her cheeks.

"No... no, not at all. You did something very right" she smiled and he looked at her a little confused. "I'll just say goodnight to him" she said as she went and sat on the edge of the bed.
