Chapter Eight
The Acknowledgement

The smell of freshly cured ham filters through the house as Abigail pours a cup of black coffee for Clifford. He looks up at her, gives her a wink then says to her, "I never believed in any of that malarkey about that coming back from the dead stuff but after everything thing that has happened I will have to say my mind is beginning to change." It was just then that Garland and Soda Pop was awakened by the smell of freshly cooked ham and eggs.  They run into the kitchen and discover the man that they believed was their daddy. Their eyes are as big as saucers when they see him. Garland says to him, "I thought my daddy was dead?" Abigail says, "well, sometimes they come back, right Mr. Green?" He looks at her, then back to the boys and says, "Mrs. Green that is right, sometimes they do come back?" Clifford then says to the boys, "Do you see this nickel? Now watch as I spin it on the table top. It finally stops spinning and is now standing on its edge. They ask, "How do you do that?" Clifford replies, "I will teach you someday when you're older." They finish their finely prepared breakfast and then head off to school for the day. Meanwhile, in the heavens, we notice the ghostly images of Ezra, Mr. Hoot, and God having a logical discussion concerning the Green family. Ezra says to God, "Well, I guess Clifford will now have to live "A Life Without Wings." God then says to Ezra and Mr.Hoot, "well, I will have to say that you both did a wonderful job, on your first assignment so enjoy those new wings.
"Yes, that was the way I remember it all those years ago when I was just 10 years old and growing up in Waldrop, Mississippi because in those days everyone still called me Soda Pop."
