It takes one day to turn a life around. Every choice we make in our lifetime causes a butterfly effect for the best...or the worst. For instance you could decide to get a different coffee from the café which takes a minute longer, this could cause you to be in there long enough for the girl of your dreams to walk in and you instantly hit it off or because your drink took longer, when you walked out to go home you happen to go out as a criminal is speeding down the road and you get hit. Anything can happen because of the choices you make. Your life is a real life game, you are just a piece being used in your story, hoping every move you make makes you victorious at the end of it. Some are lucky. Some are not. Only in this game, once its over, theres no respawns. Its the end of the line
Waverly's POV
I sat on the couch , nerves tickling at my stomach. I was so happy about my news but also so scared. My eyes flickered down to the engagement ring on my finger and started to play with it. I could remember the day Nicole proposed, it was so beautiful, although her beauty really stole the show. She was my stunning fiancée who spent almost everyday risking her life for strangers she didnt know. I knew she kept in some of the things that upset her in the job, shes had to do all sorts of things for people, shes tried to stop people jumping, and I know its not always worked. However she keeps her work life outside of personal life unless its something like 'oh I saved a puppy today' which is a story I always enjoy. She's no less of a protector at home, shes always looking after me and checking on me. I think what she fears most is loosing me, I feel the same way. I dread everyday she goes out the door , not knowing if shes going to come back. I worked in journalism which you may think is a bit of a conflict with a police officer but we understand each other. Its why we fit.
I heard the door open and I quickly stood up , heart racing. God it was time. Fear climbed up my body and tore into my chest. "Babe i'm home" I heard the angelic voice echo from the other room and my heart fluttered. She walked in, uniform looking crisp as always. Although she had some dirt on her boots, scuffs too, she had been running after someone. I ran to her and hugged her tightly, she pulled me right against her chest. I could hear her heart beat, it was racing. Her posture was slightly stiff too, something was up. I pulled back slightly and slipped my hand up to her cheek.
"Tough day at work?" I asked softly and gave her a gentle kiss on her lips which she gladly returned. We stayed in this passionate moment for awhile until eventually we pulled apart."I have something to tell you" we spoke at the same time and both our eyes flickered suspiciously to each other. "You go first" I chuckled and sat down on the sofa, she did the same. I couldnt tell if it was happy or sad, she gave off mixed signals. Her strong rough hands took mine in hers. I ran my thumb across a scar on her hand. I remembered this one, she had been after a convict in a bar and she had chased him into the kitchen and tried to take him down but as they fought he had picked up a kitchen knife and slammed it forward and right through her hand. She did catch him in the end but I know the pain for her was agonising. She didnt speak at first as if composing herself. She looked at me directly in the eye and finally the words fell from her lips.
"I have signed up for the army" and like that, our whole world changed. My heart stopped and my hand began to tremble in hers.
"What?" I croaked out slightly trying to hold back my tears. I knew this was something she wanted but I didnt expect it to actually happen and not now.
"I'm going into the army, my police service has made it easier for me to get through quicker as well, I just have to do a small training course then I'm in" she spoke calmly but somewhere in her voice I heard the sound of guilt thread through her words.
"What are you going to be doing?" I asked trying to keep myself together but I was struggling. I couldnt loose her. This was bad timing.
"Front line duty, in Iraq" the words tore into me and mocked my every fear.
"What?! Front line?!" I stood up and started to pace, tears trickling down my cheeks , hand sliding into my hair. I thought I was going to collapse, I felt dizzy and sick, imaging Nicole out there in the frontline fight. I know the savage attacks the Civil War in Iraq had caused, what those terrorists were doing. My Nicole, my fiancée, my everything was going to be going out into the firefight. She stood up too and cupped my cheeks making me look into her eyes again but I struggled to stay looking at her. Her face would soon change and break from the effects of war.
"I'm going to be fine baby girl" she whispered and pressed another kiss onto my lips and wiped away my tears with her thumb slowly "I'm already well trained from police work, you know I'm going to be fine" she rested her forehead onto mine. How would I be able to deal with her gone for months at a time. I Have Wynonna to look after me but I want my Nicole by my side."Just.." I tried to gather my words "Dont forget to come back home...to me...to us" I righted my words and she just looked confused for a moment and leant back slightly.
"Wait...we?" she asked confused and I nodded slightly with a small smile.
"Nicole...im pregnant"A.n guys are you excited for this book? just wanted to quickly say, I do know the Iraq civil war against IS is over so this will be set like a year ago and not everything in this book is gonna be exactly accurate so please dont be like 'this shooting didnt happen' or this bombing didnt happen'
