Should have asked you out sooner

Chapter 10

JOSH'S POV

I woke up feeling like I had slept on a cloud or something.  I don’t know when the last time was I got such a good night’s sleep.  In a matter of weeks I had gone from being happily single to now feeling like I never wanted to be single again.   This beautiful woman sleeping next to me had me hook, line and sinker.  I had known her for ages but never really enquired about her relationship status because I figured a beautiful being like this surely was not single.  I only wish I’d known she was single way back when I first developed my crush on her.

I never told anyone about it but, one day about a year ago when I was playing basketball it happened.

James, his sister Sarah and a bunch of other friends came down to watch me play basketball which was nothing out of the ordinary.  Before I took to the court I noticed Holly.  She was wearing faded blue jeans and a light green hoodie and was tying her hair up in a ponytail.  I don’t know what it is but I love watching a girl do her hair.  

She caught me staring at her and smiled, I smiled back and waved and stripped off my jacket ready to play.   Every now and then i glanced in her direction and she was smiling and cheering.  I had seen her at my games before but for some reason i took alot more notice today.

During a time out i overheard her say to James 'i can't believe you'll bet agaist your mate, you are so buying me drinks later'. 

As we came back onto the court she called out  'Go Hutch and i gave her a thumbs up'.  Hm maybe she was betting on my team to win.  The thought made me smile.  There was no way in hell i was going to let us loose this game. 

We won,  I met them all out in the parking lot after the game and James said to me "man you had to bloody win this time'.

"what, winning is the idea dipshit' i said to him.  'what did you bet against me or something'.

'He did indeed and now he owes me a whole lot of tequila'. Holly said

'You know James it is customary to buy the winner a drink so i'm with her, your shout dude.  Tequila was is Holly'.  i asked.

'Yes Josh Tequila it is'. she replied.

'ok, ok i don't welch on a bet but 3 shots each that's it ' says James 'and only you two everyone else buys their own'.

Holly and i high-fived and we all drove of the the club.

After the 3 shots from James we bought each other one and danced for a bit with a group of people.   Then i kissed her cheek and thanked her for betting on me to win before i left.  Come to think of it i'm sure i've seen her at a few of my games when the others have not been there.

I brush a strand of hair from her cheek and smile.  So, maybe she'd been crushing on me this whole time too.  I smile and lean across and gently kiss her shoulder. 

When i finally did call her up and she said yes i admit to myself i was nervous.  Holly is a beautiful woman, long dark straight hair with a faint dark cherry colour on the tips, lightly tanned flawless skin and hazel eyes like me. Going from aquaintance to friend and then girlfriend happened so quickly but felt so perfectly natural.  When i was in New York doing press i called my mother one night and i told her about Holly.  I told her that she has to come to L.A. and meet her.  That she will love her almost as much as me.  

She woke up and smiled up at me then lifted herself up and kissed me.

It was then that i remembered the gift i had purchased in New York for her.  I hoped that she liked me putting Driver's name on the necklace.  Something deep down inside me knew she would.
