BEN COMES BACK for me. And we leave the base, with memories of Cassie, floating in our minds.
Ben is fine. Limping in pain from the bullet wound I gave him in his right leg, but other than that, he is fine. So is Megan. Sam might be a bit disturbed. But Evan is also back. Back and quiet. For a person who would always leave, die and return, he was taking the situation pretty badly. He didn't speak for days since we left the base.
We made it to the West Liberty Caverns. When we got there, I instructed everyone to clean themselves, in honour of Cassiopeia, and clean where we are now living, In honour of Cassiopeia. Our saviour.
I taught Sam his ABC's, in honour of Cassiopeia. Megan washed bear and herself, in honour of Cassiopeia. Evan washed, shaved and brushed his hair and teeth, in honour of Cassiopeia. Same with Ben, in honour of Cassiopeia. Then we all cleaned the caverns, in honour of Cassiopeia.
From the time Cassie was vaporised along with the mothership, the days and nights have lingered longer than before. The sky filled with the horrid green mist, reminding us of the others. But with every passing hour, the Earth is restarting.
Preparing itself for the next evolution in time. The world ends and the world begins again. It always does. It takes time though. Valuable time. The hush before the world is full of the hustle and bustle of animals and thriving vegetation.
During this in-between time, we, humanity, will repopulate. Save any remaining survivors. Rebuild society. Teach language. Teach mathematics. Teach chess. Create cultures and traditions. Agriculture. Build up our infrastructure. Find resources.
We will do this in honour of Cassiopeia, the Queen of the Night. And we will do this in honour of humanity. Our humanity. Which still remains. Through all troubles we face, we will solve with our humanity. Cassiopeia's humanity.
As humans, we will face everything that we come across that challenges us. As humans, we will work our asses off, achieving goals. As humans, we will eat, shit, sleep, cry, laugh, grow, fall-in-love, marry, start a family, care for our family, watch our children grow up, who will also fall-in-love, marry, and start a family— the cycle goes on.
We will take risks, make mistakes, learn from our mistakes, get up and try again. Failure, retry, success. Failure, retry, success. The cycle goes on.
We will explore till there's no more land to explore, conquer seas, battle natural disasters. Explore, rest, explore, discover. Explore, rest, explore, discover. The cycle goes on.
As humans, we will take back from the others, what was once ours— our humanity. The ability to go back for others. The ability to take risks and fail. The ability to fall-in-love and put the loved one before you're own life. The ability to stand in the eye of the storm and not tremble and fall. The ability to get up even when everyone and everything falls around you.
Everything Cassiopeia did; her humanity. Everything she risked; her humanity. Everyone and everything she loved; her humanity. Everything she learned; her humanity. Everything she discovered; her humanity. Every time she got up after falling; her humanity.
When she stepped into the eye of the storm, aka. The Mothership, she carried her humanity with her. And the humanity of all lives lost.
Alone in the forest, with a rifle in one hand and bear in the other, a Silencer was eyeing her while she slept.

I am humanity, she had written. Self-centered, stubborn, sentimental, childish, vain. I am humanity. Cynical, naive, kind, cruel, soft as down, hard as tungsten steel.

Cassiopeia, queen of the night, showed us what humanity really is. We will carry her humanity, and make it ours, spread it over the Earth. Tell her story.
     Cassie, I can't believe I'm saying this but . . . I adore you.
