El walked down the hallways of the school she had come to know in the recent months. She slowly approached her locker and turned the dial, struggling, but it finally opened and she sighed in satisfaction. All she wanted to do was grab her books and head to class, but a small, folded piece of paper fell out of her locker. She bent over to pick it up. This was the fifth one this week... and it was only Wednesday. Ever since El came to the school, she was the target of the bullies, but no one knew.
Usually, they just said that she was ugly, a freak, or stupid, which were all far from the truth. She tried to ignore them, but they secretly festered in the back of her mind. They never brought her to the point of tears though. El read the small note that she grasped in her fragile hands and she felt tears rush quickly to her eyes, threatening to spill out.

You will never be enough for him.

She read the note, over and over again, and the threatening tears finally won and flowed down her face. Two arms wrapped around her waist, startling her. She hastily crushed the note into a book she had in her hand, praying to God that Mike didn't see. Luckily for her he didn't.
"Hi beautiful." Mike spoke softly into El's ear, sending shivers down her spine. She slowly turned and is met by Mike's freckled face, as he placed a sweet kiss on her lips.
"Hi." She says after he pulls away, reluctantly. Mike furrows his eyebrows as he sees the tear tracks that ran down her face. He hated to see her like this, but it was an all too familiar sight. All he saw when he looked into her eyes when he saw her like this was a broken little girl, and it broke his heart.
"Why are you crying?" He rubs his the soft pads of his thumbs against he cheeks. She silently debates with herself whether or not to tell her boyfriend what she has endured these past couple of weeks. Finally, she comes to the conclusion to keep it to herself and just lie to Mike.
"Nothing. It's nothing. Just read something sad," which wasn't exactly a lie and Mike believed her. She often read books and got so attached that her emotions would get the best of her. He gave her a smile and she returned with a small grin.
The bell rings and the sound of bustling teens fill the hallways. Mike pulls El close to him and kisses her passionately before he says goodbye and walks towards homeroom. El grabs the note from earlier and clings to it for dear life as she walks to her own homeroom.

El's day was a blur. She didn't remember anything really because all she thought about was that stupid note.

You will never be enough for him.

Those words haunted her. Even as she entered the comfort of her small cabin, she couldn't help but feel broken. She didn't know what to do, but she started to believe those words written sloppily across the crinkled paper that now laid on top of her bed sheets. Her expression turned from a distraught to an angered one to a heartbroken one. She knew what she had to do.
El walks quickly to her closet and pulls out her small messenger bag that she had used nearly a year before. She stuffed several articles of clothing inside as tears poured out of her eyes. Once she packed everything she deemed necessary, she pulled out of piece of paper from her school bag along with a pencil and quickly scratched a note on it.

I'm sorry. I'm not enough. You deserve so much more. Goodbye.

She left the note on her bed and ran to her front door, bag in hand. El unlocked the door and flew down the steps, turning back to stare at the small cabin she called home.

"Goodbye." She quietly whispered and ran down the path towards the bus station.

Mike knew something was wrong with El. She had been acting weird all day and although she said this was about her book, he knew his girlfriend and she did not act like this over a stupid book, but he didn't want to pressure her into telling him. So, after school, he waited for El to start walking home, as she did every other day, and followed her to the all too familiar cabin. He saw her in her bedroom crying and gathering clothes into a small bag and writing something on a piece of paper. A few seconds later, she came flying out of the door. She then disappeared out of his line of vision. He waited about a minute before he ran up to her bedroom window, and jumped into it, tumbling loudly to the floor. There was a small not on her bed and he picked up, tears rushing to his eyes as he read it. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a small crinkled piece of paper lying in her small trash can near her bed. He picked it up and read the note and let the tears flow down his face, finally realizing what was going on.
His El was running away.

"Hi! How may I help you?" The lady behind the counter spoke nicely with a warm smile.
"Um I need one ticket to Indianapolis please." El had found her sister Kali living in some building in some place called Indianapolis. She didn't want to go to Kali, but she was he only other option besides Aunt Becky and there was not way she was going there. The kind lady slid her a ticket and El gave her the money she owed.
The bus pulled up about five minutes and El stood up from the bench she was currently occupying. She slowly walked up to the bus and was last in line behind ten others. The other passengers climbed onto the bus one-by-one and finally it was her turn. One foot hit the steps and she heard the oh-so-familiar voice of the one she loved the most.
"El!" Mike came running towards the bus. The 'lovebirds' as Dustin called them, were only about ten feet away now, staring into each other's eyes with love and heartbreak. She loved him so much, but she thought she knew that was her best option and the best option. The boy took a step closer, but she held her hand up, signaling for him to stop.
"El..." His voice cracked as tears streamed down his face, causing tears to swell in her eyes once again.
"Goodbye Mike."
