Mike approached the same window El had approached just a fifteen minutes before.
"Hi! How may I-" Mike cut off the kind lady.
"Where is that bus going?" The lady just stared at the teenage boy who had tears still streaming down his face. She typed something on her computer before turning back to the boy.
"That bus has several stops tonight." She said in a slightly annoyed voice due to the boys rudeness. Mike didn't care though. He only cared about his El.
"Do you remember a young girl around the age of fourteen approach the window? She just got on that bus."
"Yes, I recall there being a young girl here. She had short shoulder-length chestnut hair, if I recall correctly, she was very upset." Mike frowned as more tears spilled out of his eyes.
"Y-yeah. That's her. C-can you tell me where she's going please?"
"I'm afraid I can't release that information sir." Mike furrowed his eyebrows and glared at the women.
"So, you're telling me that you can give a ticket to a minor without question, but you can't tell her boyfriend where she's going?" The lady nodded, hesitantly.
"Hmm... I don't think that Chief Hopper would like this very much considering that's his daughter." The lady's eyes widened, realizing that what she did would be the biggest mistake of her life, if the Chief found out.
"Indianapolis. That's where the girl is headed, but there is one stop before then that is pretty close to here. It's about a thirty minute drive for the bus, but only a twenty minute drive for a regular car." Mike sighed. He rode here on his bike; there was no way he'd make it there in time. Luckily for him, he wasn't the only one who saw what went down at the cabin.
~
Max was also worried about El that day, so she went there after school. She approached the small cabin in the woods, but was stopped in her tracks when she saw a distraught El whisper goodbye towards the cabin. Unfortunately, she knew what was going on. She quietly tip-toed behind El and finally noticed where she was headed. The red-head threw her skateboard on the pavement in front of her and quickly skated towards the police station. She began to enter and walked hurriedly back to Hopper's office, not bothering to even acknowledge Flo's aggravated shouts to stop.
Hopper was on the phone when the fiery red-head entered with a worried expression written on her face. He set his phone down and stared at his daughter's best friend. His heart dropped when he heard what the girl said next.
"El's running away."
~
Mike heard tire marks come to a screeching halt and saw an all too familiar face get out of the police car. Hopper ran towards him, Max trailing closely behind him.
"Where is she kid?"
"She got on a bus to Indianapolis about ten minutes ago. Come on!" Mike quickly ran to the police car, the other two trailing behind him.
"There's a stop just before El's." Mike said as Hopper pulled out of the bus station. Hopper turned on his red and blue lights and sped as fast as he could. They saw the bus in about fifteen minutes, turning off into a small bus station, similar to the one they were at just a few minutes before.
They pulled up just as they saw the bus let off their passengers. Hopper quickly pulled the car to a screeching halt and raced out of the car towards the bus. Mike followed the older man as Max stayed at a distance.
Hopper boarded the bus to see his favorite girl sleeping in a seat in the very back. He smiled at the sight, relieved to see that she's okay. He walked back towards the sleeping girl, gathering her up in his arms.
Mike saw Hopper exit the bus and quickly ran over to him to see El laying in his arms. He stroked her hair and planted a sweet kiss to her forehead. El slowly awakened at the feeling of his lips and felt him lean down to her ear.
"You will always be more than enough."
