"Okay everyone that's it for today! Have a wonderful Spring Break!"
Just as Mrs.Gold finished talking, the final break rang, leading to a major commotion as students headed to their long awaited break.
I waited until the danger of getting trampled was past, and then leisurely stood up. I was in no hurry. Every break was the same for me. I spent my time taking care of Michelle, as my mother's business was at its peak during the warm seasons. I liked the long relaxing days, with no stress of school. It was one of the things that I usually looked forward to the most.
However, what darkened the mood was my birthday.
It was the same every year, with my mom urging me to have a party, and me trying to explain that I had no friends to invite to it. Every year, I tried to enjoy my mother's feeble attempts to make it a special day, while simultaneously ignoring the concerned glances. It was never any different.
I walked out the classroom, giving my teacher I farewell smile, and receiving a sympathetic one in return.
I took out my phone, unwinding the earbuds and sticking them in my ears.
I turned on the volume to its maximum, tuning out all my surroundings.
While I was humming along to my favorite tunes I felt someone grab my shoulders and turn me around.
There was only one person who I was even remotely friends with.
I looked up at his face, and saw that he was talking to me.
I pulled out my earbuds. "Hey"
He looked at me, exasperated. "Did you hear anything I was saying?"
I shook my head. "Nope"
He sighed. "I was saying, we should go to the beach on Wednesday. Its the only day I'm free."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Why?"
He cast me a disapproving look.
"Because it was on the list, remember? One of the wishes was a swim in the ocean"
I groaned. "I don't think I can, this Wednesday."
"Why not?"
"I have plans"
Austin looked at me, annoyed. "Really?"
I looked down at the ground. "Why is that so hard to believe?" I muttered.
He didn't reply.
I signed. "Fine. Its my birthday on Wednesday"
He jumped. "Really? That's perfect! We can celebrate at the beach. I'll even bring cake" He said, excited.
"No way" I said.
"Why?" he whined.
I couldn't come up with a valid reason.
Austin punched his fist in the air. "Okay its settled. I'll pick you up in the morning."
He was about to walk away when he halted. He turned back to me. "Bring your family too!"
And with a final grin he ran off, leaving my reply still hanging from my lips.
